Mark your calendars! Our Indian Education Parent Committee is hosting its 2nd Annual Christmas Market on December 5, 2026.
Come shop for Christmas gifts, support local vendors, or treat yo’self! We’re also hoping to have about four food trucks on-site, because Christmas shopping is hard work—and snacks help.
Want to join us as a vendor?
Crafters, creators, bakers, and candy makers: Complete our Vendor Application.
Food truck owners: Complete our Food Truck Application and bring your best eats!
Whether you’re buying, selling, or spending the money you just made selling, come support Muskogee Indian Education and our AISA (American Indian Student Association) programs.
The JOM and Title VI Parent Committees will donate 100% of the funds raised through vendor and food truck fees to Muskogee Indian Education programs.
We’ll also have a silent auction! If you’d like to donate an item, please contact me. Your donation can help someone finish their Christmas shopping—and help our students at the same time.

Tell your friends! We hope to see you there!

🧡 Orange Shirt Day — Every Child Matters 🧡

Today is a day of remembrance. We remember Native children who were taken from their families and sent to boarding schools and residential schools. These schools existed in both Canada and the United States, and their purpose was largely to separate Native children from their families and communities and force them to give up their languages, cultures, traditions, and identities. In the United States, the Department of the Interior has documented 408 federal Indian boarding schools across 37 states or territories between 1819 and 1969.

For many children, the experience was much more than simply being away from home. Children were sometimes given new names, had their hair cut, were forbidden or severely punished for speaking their Native languages or practicing their cultures and religions, and were subjected to harsh discipline. Survivors have also described physical and sexual abuse, neglect, poor living conditions, and the deep loneliness of being separated from their families. Government investigations have documented children who died while attending these schools, with burial sites identified at or near many former school locations.

Orange Shirt Day began in Canada with the story of Phyllis Webstad, who shared how the orange shirt her grandmother gave her was taken away when she was sent to residential school as a child. Her story helped create the Orange Shirt Day movement and its message of “Every Child Matters.”

Although Orange Shirt Day began in Canada, the United States has its own painful history of Indian boarding schools and the forced separation of Native children from their families and cultures. Because of these shared histories, Orange Shirt Day has also become an important day of remembrance and education here in the United States.

Every Child Matters means that every child deserves to be safe, loved, respected, and proud of who they are and where they come from. Remembering this history isn't about making anyone feel guilty for what happened in the past. It is about being honest about what happened, listening to survivors, honoring the children who experienced it, and making sure we never forget the value of family, culture, language, and identity.

🧡 We remember. We honor. We educate.
🧡 Every Child Matters — past, present, and future.
