WE NEED YOU!

Seeing everybody joke that OKC’s historic Gold Dome is going to become the world’s largest Dollar General immediately made me think of my old friend and Bacone retiree Rickey LaCour. 😂

Rickey used to tell me about his time living in Oklahoma City near the Gold Dome. He was a Checotah guy through and through, so I know the idea of preserving this beautiful piece of Oklahoma history just to stick a Dollar General in it would have made him laugh.

Rickey was Mr. Cool at Bacone. Always had the leather jacket, the smile, and more style than the rest of us. And the man could dance. Salsa and flamenco. He had moves that put all of us younger guys to shame. I knew he had been a basketball player, but reading his obituary later and realizing just how accomplished he was, from a state championship in Checotah to playing point guard at OU, made him even cooler.

Tonight I can picture him in heaven laughing at this ridiculous Gold Dome Dollar General, wearing that leather jacket and eating some of our favorite noodles from Magic Wok.

It’s funny what brings somebody back to your mind. I miss my friend. ❤️

Random Bacone alumni question!

Does anyone know Vaughn Romero or know how to get ahold of him?

Gail, the former Bacone registrar, has been holding onto his diploma since Bacone closed. It doesn’t need to stay in storage anymore, so if Vaughn would like it, I’d like to help get the two connected.

Before anyone asks, I probably won’t have answers to other Bacone questions. I just happened to hear about this one and wanted to see if we could track Vaughn down.

Tag him if you know him or send me a message if you can help. Thanks!

Good news! You are now able to request your Bacone College transcripts through the Parchment website.

Here’s how to do it:

Go to Parchment and add Northeastern State University (NSU) as your school

Click “Order Transcripts”

On the next page, you’ll see the option for Bacone College Transcript

Hey everyone — I wanted to share an important update for all Bacone College alumni and former students.

I just received confirmation that all Bacone transcripts have now been transferred to Northeastern State University.

If you need official transcripts (for jobs, grad school, etc.), you’ll now need to contact NSU directly through their website: nsuok.edu

Please help spread the word to other Bacone alumni and former students who may be trying to track down their records.

I know a lot of folks have been waiting on this update.

Enjoy the traditional college feel and is truly a fun and affordable place, Only NSU has the third-lowest tuition in Oklahoma.

📣 Attention Former Bacone College Students

If you need a transcript for admissions or employment, please read and share:

📍 Location: Muskogee
📜 Accreditation: Higher Learning Commission
📆 Dates of Accredited Operation: March 31, 1965 – July 17, 2024

Bacone College was placed into Chapter 7 bankruptcy in May 2025. Because of this, transcripts are no longer available through Parchment, and Bacone transcripts are currently unavailable.

The bankruptcy trustee is working to find a new records custodian, who will maintain Bacone transcripts (going back to 1999) and eventually make them available again for online ordering. There is no established timeline yet for when transcript access will be restored.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) are in contact with the involved parties and are monitoring the situation. They will update their site when there is reliable information about when and how transcripts will become available again.

🔔 Want to be notified directly when there is an update?
OSRHE staff are creating a list of former Bacone students to contact when they receive a substantive update about Bacone transcripts.

If you want to be on that list, email:
📧 [email protected]
Include:
• Your full name
• Your preferred email address

Please share this with any former Bacone students who may need this information.

📣 Attention Former Bacone College Students 📣

If you’re trying to order official transcripts and ran into issues with Parchment, you’re not alone.

⚠️ Although the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) website says Bacone transcripts should be available through Parchment, this is no longer true. When you try to order, Parchment shows this message:

“Bacone College has filed for bankruptcy protection in the Eastern District of Oklahoma and cannot fulfill transcript requests at this time. We do not know when transcript services will become available.”

Here’s what you can do instead ⬇️

📌 Contact Bacone College Directly:
Even during bankruptcy, Bacone may be able to issue paper transcripts by request.

👉 Email: [email protected] or [email protected]
👉 Call: 918-781-7254
👉 Request a paper or eTranscript — they were previously charging $5–$7.50.

📌 Need State Help?
Bacone is a private college, so OSRHE has limited authority. However, if you need help navigating the situation:

🔗 Contact: Elizabeth Walker at OSRHE
📧 Email: [email protected]
📞 Phone: 405-225-9100

📌 Questions about Financial Aid?
