When grieving, the loss of independence can add to an already heavy emotional load. You might find it harder to do the things you used to manage on your own—whether it’s running errands or simply getting out of bed. This can amplify feelings of sadness or frustration, making it feel like there’s no end in sight. It’s important to be patient with yourself during this time. Allow yourself to ask for help when needed, and don’t feel guilty for leaning on others. Healing is a process, and adjusting to both emotional and physical changes takes time.

Grief has a way of catching us off guard. Sometimes, it’s the little things—a song, a familiar scent, or even a place—that bring up unexpected emotions. These triggers can be powerful reminders of your loved one and can stir up sadness, confusion, or even anger.

When that happens, remember:
• Feel what you need to feel—it's okay.
• Take a deep breath and ground yourself.
• Talk to someone or journal to ease your mind.
• Do something comforting to honor your loved one's memory.

You don’t have to go through this alone—take it moment by moment and reach out for the support you need.

A memory box can be a quiet way to honor your loved one. Collect items that remind you of them—photos, letters, or any meaningful objects—and place them in the box. It’s a personal space where you can revisit memories when you need comfort, helping you stay connected with your loved one during a tough time.

Losing someone close is never easy, and handling the paperwork afterward can feel overwhelming. If your loved one had Medicare, their coverage will end once Social Security is notified. The funeral home typically handles this, but you may need to submit the death certificate to Social Security yourself.

It’s also important to review your own coverage, especially if you were on their plan, and check for any remaining medical bills.

We’re here for you through it all. If you have any questions, feel free to call or text us at 616-843-0387.

When a loved one passes, figuring out what to do with their medical equipment can feel overwhelming. Donating items like walkers, wheelchairs, or hospital beds to local charities or reuse programs can be a meaningful way to help others in need.

If the equipment was rented or covered by insurance, contacting the provider is a good first step. They can assist with returns or guide you through the process.

When you're ready, taking care of these items can help create space for healing while offering support to others who need it most.

After a loss, planning for the future might feel like too much to handle. While there are many things to focus on, consider taking small steps toward preparing for your own care needs, like long-term care insurance, when the time feels right.

When you're ready, a financial advisor can help you navigate your options—whether it's about long-term care insurance, savings, or other future needs. It’s about setting yourself and your loved ones up for peace of mind down the road.
