The College Success Center was established to help students realize their full educational potential at MCC.

Our department provides many of the essential academic supports that students may need on their academic journeys — Tutoring, the Writing Center, Math Support, and more! The CSC primarily offers developmental courses in reading, writing, and math. Developmental courses typically don't earn college credit, but they are required to take based on your placement testing.

Meet Dylan Hock, Writing Center Manager!

Dylan earned is M.F.A. in Creative Writing, Prose Concentration from Naropa University (2003) and his B.A. in English from Western Michigan University (2000).

“As the Writing Center Manager, I work with students from first ideas to final drafts, offering guidance without taking over their work. My goal is to create a welcoming space where students can ask questions, take risks, and leave believing more in their own voice and abilities. The Writing Center is here to help students and community members become stronger, more confident writers.“

Fun Fact about Dylan: He lived in a 12th-century castle with Ezra Pound’s family in Dorf Tirol, Italy, studying The Cantos and creative writing with John Gery through the University of New Orleans.

Be sure to say “hello” to Dylan when you come by Academic Support!

Meet Emily, our Tutoring Services Manager!

She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from North Park University (2010).

"My job is to hire tutors and ensure that students and faculty feel supported in their courses. I love being an encouragement to students and reminding them that they are not alone in their academic journey."

Fun fact about Emily: She took a Public Speaking course in college because it terrified her, and she wanted to face her fear. It ended up being her favorite class!

Be sure to say "Hello!" to Emily when you see her around campus! 👋

Tutoring Services does more than just give away fancy calculators!

We also offer both content-specific tutoring (for many courses that you may take at MCC) and general tutoring (like time management or study techniques)! You can drop-in online or in-person for tutoring, make an appointment for online or in-person tutoring through MyMCC, and access Brainfuse through Blackboard for ‘round the clock assistance.
