I have been caring for kids since I was twelve and only had one get away from me and it was ALL MY fault.

I did everything you’re supposed to and more to make it right and took precautions for the future.

The first weeks of school brings many changes, but there’s NO excuse for a kid to get away from a teacher.
An autistic child that is a known “runner” or “wanders” needs more supports in place to ensure safety and this should never be accepted as an excuse for losing a kid in their care!

Yesterday’s Skee’s lost child could have went way differently, just like happened in another state simultaneously.

Get to know your child’s teacher and bus driver first thing!
And hold admin accountable by making a police report and not accepting excuses like this.
Posting on social media helps inform others, but if you don’t put it in writing, doesn’t mean much to admin.

As an educator, this is completely terrifying and makes me so sad because I feel like ALL Skee’s kids are OURS to protect.

Condolences 💐 to the family whose son never made it home from his first week of school 💔.

When my third shift kids came in Friday, I told them, “Go to bed! For 100 years!
😆just kidding!”
😝😂they actually had popcorn, lemonade, and a movie waiting and were allowed to stay up til it was over- neither made it a half hour! 😆
