MCC STEM Lab Homeschool Program
2026-2027 School Year
Please Join us at the Consumers Energy STEM Lab for exciting hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) activities! The STEM Lab is a super fun and exciting place where kids become scientists, engineers, inventors, and problem-solvers!! Learn how to apply the engineering design process while building and programming robots, completing engineering challenges, exploring the Fab Lab, and so much more STEAM fun!
STEM Lab Homeschool Program Information:
• All classes will be held on Tuesdays:
o 9:00am- 10:15am Ages 5-8 (Grades K-2)
o 10:30am- 12:00 pm Ages 9-11 (Grades 3-5)
o 12:30pm- 2:00 pm Ages 12+ (Grades 6-12)
• Cost: $10 per class session, some classes have a consumable cost for use of the Fab Lab that does not exceed $15
• Each month will have a theme!
• Families must register and commit to a full month of classes.
• All classes will be held at: MCC Sturrus Technology Center, Consumers Energy STEM Lab, 388 W Clay Ave, Muskegon, MI 49440

September Theme: Code and Construct- Robotics Adventures
Class Description: Get ready to build, code, and play your way through the world of robotics! In this hands-on class, students will dive into the exciting world of STEM using a variety of robotics kits! Students will build and program robots to complete real-world tasks and learn key STEM skills while having a blast!
Class Dates: September- 1st, 8th, 15th, & 22nd

October Theme: Future Makers- Laser Lab (Fab Lab)
Class Description: In this high-tech design lab, students explore the power of laser cutting and engraving to turn their digital ideas into real-world creations. Using beginner-friendly design software, they’ll create custom artwork, keychains, or other projects and then use a laser cutter to cut or etch their designs. Along the way, students will learn how a laser works, how to prepare digital files for cutting, and how to safely operate equipment in a modern Fab Lab environment. During registration, please select what final project your child would like to make so I can order ahead of time. They can choose between a night light and tumbler.
Class Dates: Sept. 29th, October 6th, 20th, &27th (NO Class October 13th for Fall Break)

November Theme: Air & Water Power- Hydraulics and Pneumatics
Class Description: In this exciting engineering lab, students dive into the science of hydraulics and pneumatics- systems that use the power of water and air to move machines. By building their own mini-lifters, robotic arms, and moving mechanisms using syringes, tubing, and fluid power, students learn how force and pressure can be used to do real work.
Class Dates: November- 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th

December Theme: Future Makers- Print Lab (Fab Lab)
Class Description: Welcome to the Future Makers: Print Lab, where art and technology come together! In this creative Fab Lab class, students will explore the exciting world of digital design and custom printing by making their own stickers and sublimation projects. Use design software to create bold, colorful graphics and turn your ideas into original projects!
Class Dates: December- 1st, 8th & 15th

February Theme: TinkerLab- 3D design & Printing (Fab Lab)
Class Description: Step into the world of 3D modeling and printing using Tinkercad, a fun and beginner-friendly online tool. Students will learn how to create their own 3D objects by combining shapes, scaling, and transforming designs into a virtual workspace. Once their creations are complete, students get to see their ideas come to life as real, physical objects using a 3D printer.
Class Dates: February- 2nd, 9th, 23rd & March 2nd (NO Class February 16th for Winter Break)

March Theme: Mini Manufacturing- Forge & Form Casting
Class Description: In this creative and hands-on maker class, students explore the exciting world of manufacturing by casting everyday materials like chocolate, hot glue, and soap into custom shapes. Using silicone molds and simple heat sources, students will melt, pour, and form their own creations. Along the way, they will learn about the states of matter, mold-making, and how real-world products are designed and manufactures using casting techniques. We will also experience and create tin charms with the Foundry in a Box program!

April Theme: The Force Lab- Electricity & Magnetism
Class Description: May the force be with you! Come explore the invisible forces behind electricity and magnetism through creative building and experimentation. Students will construct real world circuits, test conductivity, and explore the connections between electric currents and magnetic forces.

Class Description: From chemical reactions to rocket launches, students will investigate the science behind everyday phenomena. Through engaging experiments and STEM design challenges, students will explore the principles of chemistry and physics in a fun, interactive environment.
