MCEC 2026 graduate Tahj Davis recently connected with his mentor and sponsor, Kaniyah Brown, Muskegon Public Schools alumnus, during Black Tech Week in Cincinnati, Ohio this past Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Since January, Kaniyah has been mentoring Tahj by providing guidance, encouragement, and exposure to opportunities in technology and cybersecurity. During Black Tech Week, Tahj participated in sessions focused on artificial intelligence, leadership, entrepreneurship, networking, and emerging technology trends while connecting with industry leaders and innovators from across the country.

This experience reflects the power of mentorship and the importance of creating pathways for our students to explore careers in high-demand fields.

At MCEC (IAM), we believe that when students are connected to caring adults, meaningful experiences, and professional networks, incredible things happen.

The MCEC Fam hit the road to Howell, MI, for the 2026 Michigan Construction Career Days—and what an experience it was! 🔨🚧

Our students had the opportunity to connect with industry vendors and engage in hands-on activities across the Heavy, Commercial, Residential, and Industrial Construction pathways. From exploring apprenticeship options to learning about the “Earn While You Learn” model, they gained real-world insight into the many opportunities within the skilled trades.

Experiences like this help our students see what’s possible and take the next step toward building their future! 💪👷‍♂️👷‍♀️
