RESERVE FEATURES

The SRP Reserve protects one of the finest examples of bunchgrass prairie remaining in California with springtime flower displays of chocolate lilies, California poppies, and thread-leaf brodiaea. Springtime also makes available a large vernal pool to visitors accessible by a boardwalk onto this extremely rare type of wetland. Some animal species protected on the Reserve include mule deer, mountain lion, badger, bobcat, western pond turtle, white-tailed kites and fairy shrimp.

🪲 Fun Fact Friday!

Meet the tarantula hawk wasp, one of the Santa Rosa Plateau’s most fascinating insects! Despite its intimidating name, this large wasp isn’t hunting people. Females search for tarantulas as food for their young, while adults sip flower nectar and help pollinate native plants.

It’s a wild reminder that every creature has an important role to play. Nature education helps kids look beyond the “scary” and discover just how amazing our local wildlife really is! 🌼🌿

Did you know experiences like this are included with your Nature Education Foundation membership? 🌳

This TNEF Member Appreciation event was one to remember and we’re already planning more! Our members got to go on a private tour of Pechanga’s Great Oak, followed by a reception and lunch at Pechanga’s Journey’s End.

The first 25 members who signed up from our announcement joined us to explore the awe-inspiring 2,000+ year old Coast Live Oak on Pechanga’s Village site, a true living piece of history.

A special thank you to our Tribal Member Guide, Mary, for sharing her knowledge and bringing this incredible history to life.

Did you know dancing isn’t just for humans?

In nature, animals use movement to communicate, attract mates and share information. Bees perform a “waggle dance” to show others where to find food, while many birds use elaborate courtship dances to impress a partner.

Tomorrow night, we’ll take a cue from the natural world and dance under the oaks at the closing night of Plateau Palooza with Pushin Daisies playing country music favs 🤠🌿
