The Kinder Cottage Child Care is starting our letter recognition series!
First up is the Letter S.
​Today, the children watched a video featuring words that begin with S. What’s your favorite S word? Snail, sock, and sun were a few of our top picks, but we decided a snail would be the most fun to color!
​Ms. Gina broke out her drawing skills today and hand-drew each child their very own snail 🐌. It’s always fun to throw in a little fine motor skills practice!

The Kinder Cottage Child Care children had such a fun themed lesson over the last couple of days: What are seashells, and what are they for? 🐚
​We learned how important shells are to our small sea creature friends! The children created adorable, colorful paper seashells and read Eric Carle’s A House for Hermit Crab. They also colored their own cute hermit crabs and decorated their shells with fun sea creature stickers.
​To top it off, I brought out a sensory tray of real seashells for the kids to touch, feel, and listen to the ocean! We noticed that some shells are smooth, some are rough, some are big, and some are small—but every single one is unique and beautiful, just like our little learners.

A Sweet Catch-Up

Three days this week have been such a sweet little throwback. 💕
One of my past little ones came back to spend a few days with me. I first cared for her when she was just one year old and taking those very first steps. Now she's 9! 🥹
It was so much fun catching up after all these years. She was such a wonderful little helper, jumping right in and spending time with the younger kiddos. It's pretty amazing to watch a little one you once cared for grow into such a kind, capable big girl.
Her last day we got out my beads and she made a couple of bracelets to take home. And, of course, I had to let her take home one of the fidget toys she had her eye on. 😊
These are the moments that make doing this for so many years so special. Watching them grow, seeing them come back, and realizing that somehow all those little years ago you became a tiny part of their story. 💗
Three days went by way too quickly. What a lovely visit. 🌸

​Today I read The Little Turtle Who Never Gave Up and talked about how important it is to keep trying, even when something feels hard. Afterwards, the kids put their fine motor skills to work making their very own patterned turtle shells! 🎨✂️

Bright Colors & Big Lessons! 🎨🦎
​Today, our little group (three 2-year-olds and a 3-year-old!) read The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle.
​We watched the chameleon try on all sorts of animal parts—from bright flamingo wings to polar bear fur—before realizing something very important: being yourself is the best thing you can be!
​After the story, the kids got creative with a fun coloring activity, filling their own chameleons with every color of the rainbow. It was a great way to talk about how special and unique each of them is.

One of my summer projects was updating my window blinds !! Since I've been here approaching 24 years I've had at least 2 other window coverings !! Updating always gives me so much joy. Since the blinds were down, might as well paint too !! I am a DIYer so, Ms Gina prepped and got a workout going up and down the ladder !! I'm in love with how it came out !!

Sometimes our days seem to past by so quickly. Keeping the littles busy and engaged is always a priority. Wherever I go I always see an idea or a new item that needs to live at The Kinder Cottage Child Care. I'm making this post to highlight some art the littles did. I just noticed rectangle crafts weren't added ..!! And those came out adorable 😍
