Campus Lights

Campus Lights Founded in 1938, Campus Lights is a student-led musical organization to raise money for scholarship.

Campus Lights, "the longest running student produced and performed musical in the South," was founded by the Gamma Delta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America in 1938. The show originated as a fundraiser to pay for the fraternity's charter. After creating the Gamma Delta Chapter, the brothers decided to continue the Vaudevillian performances as a means to raise scholarship money for deserving prospective music majors who would attend Murray State Teacher's College. During World War II, the sisters of the Iota Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota stepped in to make sure "the show would go on." This period led to a temporary name change: "Campus Dim-Out," while the brothers of Gamma Delta were serving our country. Upon return from the war, a partnership emerged in an effort to keep the rich tradition that had begun with a concept called Campus Lights.

Today, the Gamma Delta Chapter and the Iota Beta Chapter at Murray State continue to produce and perform in the annual production. Campus Lights runs during the latter part of January every year, Thursday through Sunday. Due to copyright laws, Campus Lights now showcases musical theater productions written by popular librettists and composers of our time. Recent performances have included: The Music Man, Beauty and the Beast, Titanic: The Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, Anything Goes, 9 to 5 the Musical, Hairspray, Sister Act, Into the Woods, Mamma Mia, All Shook Up, and now Legally Blonde!

All proceeds from the show are given to Murray State's Department of Music so that an outstanding prospective student may be honored with a full four-year scholarship to attend Murray State University. The brothers of Gamma Delta and the sisters of Iota Beta gladly welcome you to the 85th Annual Campus Lights!
