Congrats to Murray High Speech Team members Faith McCafferty and Olivia McLaughlin on their performances at the NCFL Grand National Tournament in Washington, DC over Memorial Day weekend. So proud of our students and how well they continue to “emulate the best”! While in DC, students were able to take in many popular sites including the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, National Archives, the Smithsonian, and Arlington National Cemetery. And also on the way, we were able to have a brief visit with Mr. Etherton! 😇

We reached our goal!!! Thank you!!!

Help our students get to two national tournaments this summer: NCFL Nationals in Washington, DC and NSDA Nationals in Richmond, VA.

The overall cost for hotels, transportation, parking, registration, etc. is $10,000. 🤯 Our students have worked to have this opportunity and we want to help get them to nationals!

The Murray High Speech Team has received an incredible opportunity—a $5,000 matching grant to help send our students to compete this summer in Washington, DC (NCFL Nationals) and Richmond, Virginia (NSDA Nationals).
This means that every dollar contributed toward our team will be doubled, allowing us to maximize support for our students as they represent our school and community on the national stage.
Our students have worked tirelessly to earn these opportunities, and we are so proud of their dedication, talent, and commitment. This matching grant gives us a unique chance to come together as a community and make a lasting impact on their experience so they may continue to “emulate the best” at nationals.
We’re excited to see what we can accomplish together and are incredibly grateful for the continued support that makes opportunities like this possible!

MURRAY HIGH SPEECH TEAM WINS AT NATIONAL QUALIFIER
This weekend, Faith McCafferty competed against students from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and qualified for the 2026 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Dramatic Interpretation. McCafferty, a sophomore, is a member of the Murray High Speech Team and will represent Kentucky in the 101st national contest that will be held in Richmond, Virginia June 13-20. This weekend’s competition was held at the NSDA National Qualifier on the campus of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.

MURRAY HIGH SPEECH TEAM TAKES 8th AT KHSSL STATE
The Murray High Speech Team placed 8th in the Commonwealth at the Kentucky High School Speech League State Tournament held on the campus of Murray State University today.
Three Murray High students were state finalists (top six) and advanced in the following events:

DECLAMATION
5th - Lydia Smith

IMPROMPTU SPEAKING
4th - Ali Yarali
5th - Ava Podrovitz

Students advanced to semifinals (top twelve) in the following events:

DRAMATIC INTERPRETATION
Faith McCafferty

ORATORY
Olivia McLaughlin

PROSE
Ellie Shaw-Klarer

STORYTELLING
Laney Like

Students advanced to quarterfinals (top twenty-four) in the following events:

IMPROVISATIONAL DUO
Ava Podrovitz & Alexis Ray

The following students also added to the team effort and competed across various events at the state tournament: Roman Anderson, Anastasia Arkova, Emma Bailey, Lylah Bennett, Will Burkeen, Gavin Gorman, Jade Green, Mira Kinsley, Zoey Mason, Chyanne Miller, Vanessa Oster, Khush Patel, Susie Todd, and Arlo Vance.
