Murphysboro School of Art is dedicated to offering high-quality, non-degree art instruction for every level of learning to provide the community with opportunities to explore the world of visual arts through practice, instruction and discussion with established artists. Drawing, art history, painting classes and model drawing sessions will be offered beginning September 2012. The studio campus is
located in the Logan Historic District in the Fisher House circa 1896 formerly Old Burton Supply at 1515 Oak Street, Murphysboro Illinois. The house was built by Thomas Burton and his father for Thomas's sister Minnie Burton Fisher. After the 1925 tornado Thomas Burton and his family moved into the house and built the Sears Kit barn that housed the well known Burton Supply business. We acquired the house and barn three years ago and began restoration, Historic Properties Consultants (which is also housed in the studio house) and the studio. Director Rachel Malcolm Ensor is an internationally known painter and retired art history professor. Dr. Ensor holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, a Masters in Art History and a Ph.D. in Art History and History both from the University of Missouri. Her artwork is held in many collections throughout the world. She is pleased to share with the community of southern Illinois her talents and knowledge of the arts.
