If you need the 8 hours for the Backflow Prevention certification spots are still available. You much go to the link in the post to sign up. If you are in pod 2 or 3 you can still take the class. This does NOT move the date that the 8 hours of CEU are required to be taken. So if you are in Pod 2 and you take the class on January 28th, you will not be required to complete Backflow CEU again until all of Pod 2 is scheduled to have CEU Hours completed. January 28th Backflow Prevention
12:30 pm to 4:30 pm 8 spots available
It is NOT a requirement that you have the Backflow certification to take this ceu course.

February 26th Advanced Plumbing Installation with New Milwaukee tool Demonstrations.
5:30pm to 9:30 pm 8 spots available.

If these classes fill up and more members are in need of CEU hours we will have another class.

There will be an Illinois Cross Connection Control Device Inspector recertification course held at out training center on January 28th, 2026 from 8am to 4pm. If your backflow license is in POD 1, you must have the 8 hour course completed by June 30th of 2026. The link below will take you to the SIUE/ERTC web page to register. There are only 10 spot available. This course will also count toward your Illinois Plumbing License 4 hour CEU for the 2026 renewal. You must sign up and pay through the website.

Members without backflow license can attend the afternoon session of the class on January 28th starting 12:30pm, to complete their 4 hour Plumbing license CEU requirement for the 2026 renewal. We would like to congratulate 8 of Illinois newest plumbers. Hunter Schulein, Derrick Whisenant, Paul Herron, Isaac McMurphy, Zane Goad, Clayton Smith, Ryan Sellers, and Kyle Masters.
All 8 of these 5th year apprentices went to Springfield IL, on October 8th and took the Illinois State Plumbing test and all 8 passed with excellent scores. This is the last major hurdle of there 5 year apprenticeship, with the finish line getting closer by the day.

The Local will be walking with the Egyptian Building Trades in the DuQuoin State Fair twilight parade this Friday evening, the 22nd of August. Parade starts at 6pm, line up South of the Grandstands around 5:45pm. Approximate line up spot as in years past. Halfway down the blue line on the map. If you are interested in walking, we will see you there. There is free parking on Friday night.

The Egyptian Building Trades will also be hosting a Labor Day picnic on Monday, September 1st at the Expo Hall at the DuQuoin State Fairgounds. We will make a post with the details of that in the next few days.

Congratulations to Robert Petro, Ty Taborn, Andrew Iubelt, Gavin Thies, Hayden Harriss, Dylan Brown, and Colten Titsworth for being the 7 newest Journeyman added to UA Local 160. These 7 completed the Apprenticeship and are now journeyman. We appreciate your hard work and dedication through the Apprenticeship. All of you have a bright future ahead.

Last week 3 apprentices represented UA Local 160 in the 2025 Illinois Pipe trades Association/ COTE Apprentice contest. This year's contest was hosted by Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 149 in Champaign IL. Competing this year from Local 160 was Isaac McMurphy, Chase Brand, and Hunter Schulein. This contest hosted 42 contestants from 18 UA local from all over the state. These 3 men worked hard through tough projects, tests and nerves. Congrats on competing in the contest and thanks for representing UA local 160.

We have added a Plumbing License Continuing Education class at our training center on Thursday March 27th at 6 pm. If you are still in need of hours for the 2025 renewal, please contact Brad Thies at the Training Center. (618) 687-1537. This will be the last one offered for this renewal cycle.

We have also had a few calls regarding the IDPH online renewal wanting to charge a late fee when renewing your license. Even though it shows a late fee of $100, if you continue through the online process it will not charge a late fee as long as it's renewed no later than April 30th. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to the training center.

Congratulations to Dylan Brown, Hayden Harriss, Andrew Iubelt, Ty Taborn, Gavin Thies, and Colten Titsworth on passing the Illinois State Plumbing exam.

On January 7th & 8th, these apprentices went to Springfield IL, to take the State Plumbing Exam. All 6 passed with excellent score. Good job gentleman, and Congratulations again.
