Monarchs have reached Mexico on their migration south!

Our friends at Programa Correo Real- Mariposa Monarca passed along reports of monarchs roosting in Coahuila on Oct. 5 and 7. As the crow flies, the southernmost dot on this map is about 400 miles from the northern border of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve.

Monarchs usually begin reaching the overwintering sites as October turns to November. It won't be long before we begin receiving reports of the first monarchs from the oyamel fir forests.

When you see a monarch this fall, whether it's a roost or a single monarch, don't forget to submit your sighting to Journey North!

Radio-tagged monarchs are on the move! This past weekend, we deployed a few more monarchs with radio tags to continue studying their migration, and they're already heading south of their deployment site of Lawrence, Kansas.

If you'd like to follow along on their journeys, download the free Project Monarch Science app and search for monarchs MW26-KS-036 through MW26-KS-044. You can even "follow" these monarchs in the app and get notifications when they get detected.

Monarch Meadow will have a booth at this year's Nature Day on Saturday, October 10th at the Wilderness Station (401 Volunteer Rd., Murfreesboro, TN). If Mother Nature is willing and the timing is right, I'll show you how to tag and measure a Monarch butterfly!

Learn about the ecosystem surrounding Murfreesboro, including many plants and animals unique to Tennessee's Central Basin. Discover ongoing stewardship work and volunteer opportunities throughout the area.

Solar powered radio tags!!! We can follow them real time!

Time to follow the fall migration!

This week, Monarch Watch deployed a few solar-powered radio tags on some migratory monarch butterflies so we can study their movement this migration season. Using this new technology provides new ways of studying monarch butterflies and helps inform how we can continue supporting the species.

Want to follow along with these monarchs on their journey to Mexico? Download the Project Monarch Science app, which is free to download on mobile devices, or you can now view the app on desktop as well. Once in the app, search for the following butterflies - you can even follow them and receive notifications when they get detected!
