Greetings Fellow Greek Alumni!
The next meeting of the MTSU Fraternity & Sorority Alumni Council (formerly known as the Greek Alumni Council) is slated for Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. The meeting will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and conclude by 11:30 a.m. in the Tom Jackson Building. Parking is near the building.
On behalf of President McPhee, I would like to extend an invitation to you as a Greek leader within your organization to attend this important meeting. Your views and insights are critical to the success of the MT Greek community, so I would like to ask you to make plans to attend. My goal is to have every organization, past or present, at the table and participate in our efforts to strengthen our Greek system.
I recently was named Director of Strategic Partnerships for MTSU. In my new role, I have been given the unique opportunity to work with the council and grow support among Greek alumni. As a Chi Omega from our MTSU chapter, and the current Chi Omega Murfreesboro alumnae chapter president, I understand firsthand the importance of supporting the work of the collegiate chapters, the housing corporations, our national headquarters and the University’s leaders.
I understand that it is imperative that all voices be heard from all sides of the issues in order to find a successful path for all. Dr. McPhee has stated on numerous occasions his commitment, as well as the commitment of his staff, to find a pathway to a vibrant Greek community and his desire that we become a model for other universities to follow.
Under the organization’s current bylaws, the council is scheduled to meet at least two times per year. An agenda will be sent in advance of the meeting so you will have the chance to talk with your organization’s leadership about your position on topical issues in an effort of full disclosure and transparency.
Others attending the Oct. 1 meeting will be Leslie Merritt, Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life; Dr. Deb Sells, VP of Student Affairs; Dr. Dan Kelley, Assistant VP of Student Affairs; and me.
Fall fraternity and sorority recruitment will have wrapped up in time for a report from Leslie at the meeting. In addition, information about sorority Greek housing will be available, along with other data important to the continued conversation.
Talk with your alumni chapter’s leaders and determine the best delegate from your organization to commit to attending two meetings per year to help shape the agenda and conversation.
