Next Friday is The Schaefer Legacy Project’s fundraiser event. That is also the 2 year anniversary of mom passing. Instead of grieving what we have lost, we are going to do what we have done the past two years. Celebrate the lives of my incredible parents who made such an impact on everyone they met!

Last week, I had the honor of attending the Rutherford County Commissioners meeting where the mayor officially proclaimed December 3, 2022 as Pat and Harry Schaefer day in Rutherford County! That would have been mom’s birthday. I can not think of a better gift to her than to honor them both with the Act of Kindness Event! Tickets can be purchased at www.schaeferlegacyproject.com

For those of us parents with up and coming drivers…

SROs sponsor a free teen driving class

Rutherford County teens may enroll in the free Defense Response Improving Vehicle Education driving class taught by Rutherford County Sheriff’s school resource officers.

Students receive personal training from sheriff’s driving instructors in a three-hour online class and a seven-hour driving course, said SRO Chad Dodson who coordinates the DRIVE class.

The classroom covers driver responsibilities and liabilities, vehicle dynamics, courtesy and distracted driving.

Topics include evasive maneuvers, parallel parking, threshold/emergency braking, distracted driving, backing, corners, angled parking, preventing hot car deaths and driving in severe weather.

The online class will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Fridays and the driving course will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at Lascassas Elementary School at 6300 Lascassas Pike in Lascassas.

Classes will be Aug. 26-27, Oct. 21-22, Nov. 18-19, Jan. 27-28, 2023, March 17-18, 2023 and May 12-13, 2023.

The August class is full but students may be placed on a waiting list in case of a cancelation or register for another class.
