Thank you, Discovery families, for a wonderful evening at our Fall Festival and STEAM Night! 🎃🍂

Students showed off their engineering skills with first quarter project-based learning, then headed outside for games, treats, glow sticks, and sparkly face gems.

A huge thank you to our PTO for planning and pulling off every detail, to the parent volunteers who ran games, and to the families who donated to make it all possible. Thank you to our staff for staying after a full day to connect with students and families. And to every family who came out, you are the heart of this community!

We are so proud to celebrate our 2026–2027 Teachers & Staff of the Year!

Kelsey McKnight, School Counselor
Ms. McKnight makes sure every student and staff member knows they have someone in their corner. Her steady care, open door, and gentle wisdom help everyone in our school community feel safe, important, and empowered.

Kristen Jackson, Kindergarten Teacher
Ms. Jackson gives our youngest Explorers their very first taste of school, and she makes it magical. Her patience, joy, and love for her students lay a foundation they will carry for years.

Jennifer Hickson, 5th Grade Teacher
Ms. Hickson challenges her students to think big while making sure they feel supported every step of the way. She prepares our oldest elementary students not just for what comes next, but for who they are becoming.

These three represent the heart of Discovery School. They show up every day with kindness, dedication, and a deep belief in what our kids can do. Thank you for all you give to our students, families, and each other. We are so lucky to learn and grow alongside you. 💙

Academic Coach’s Day landed during fall break this year, but we weren’t about to let it pass without a celebration! Today our building was full of staff and students dressed as coaches and mini-Ms. Cairo’s, all to honor our amazing academic coach.

Ms. Cairo, thank you for the way you show up for our teachers every single day. Your encouragement, your expertise, and your belief in what our classrooms can be make Discovery School a better place to learn and grow. We are so lucky to have you!

We are so lucky to have Amy Jackson, a true champion for students and staff alike, as our Gifted Specialist at Discovery School. Last night, she was awarded Middle Tennessee Teacher of the Year. She was recognized last fall as one of two Discovery School 2025-2026 Teachers of the Year. Mrs. Jackson then went through a rigorous application process at both the district and state level to reach this achievement. This process allowed her to showcase all of her amazing work that our students and staff witness firsthand every day- her dedication to enrichment for all learners, her passion for equity in Gifted Education, and her enthusiasm for seeing both academic and personal growth in our students.

Congratulations, Mrs. Jackson!

Today at Discovery School, we celebrated the legacy of Dolly Parton and her lifelong love of books and early literacy! 💗

We also wrapped up our book drive, and thanks to our incredible families, students, and staff, we collected over 2,000 books for Read to Succeed. That’s 2,000+ stories headed into the hands of young readers in our community.

We celebrated 9-25 the best way we know how: dressed in pink, talking about the joy of reading, and rolling out a Dolly-inspired treat cart to thank our amazing teachers for all they do.

Thank you, Discovery family, for showing up in such a big way. 📚
