Understanding – Mary Cassatt
LECTURE & DISCUSSION

How did Mary Cassatt transform Impressionism? She painted modern women’s lives, especially motherhood, without sentimentality. This lecture explores how Cassatt’s intimate paintings and prints reveal the inner lives of ordinary women, and how she pushed beyond her male contemporaries, like Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas, to create a style unmistakably her own.
