Hello, Steel Valley families!

While summer is still in full swing, it’s never too early to plan ahead for the start of the upcoming school year. Please note that our schools will be operating on a new schedule this year.

Breakfast will be available for all students, with high school beginning at 7:05, middle school at 7:30, and elementary school at 8.

Early drop-off is available for elementary students beginning at 7:30.

The high school day will officially start at 7:35 and end at 2:22, the middle school will begin at 8:05 and end at 3:08, and Steel Valley Elementary will begin at 8:25 and end at 3:20.

Please make plans now to ensure your students are ready to start their day at the appropriate time.

We’ll see everyone for the first day of school on August 31st!

With the opening of the brand new Steel Valley Elementary this school year, the Steel Valley School District will be providing transportation for all kindergarten through fifth grade students to and from school.

Details about routes, bus stops, drop-off procedures, and more is coming soon. Information will be available at https://www.steelvalleysd.org and communicated directly to families when it is available.

On Thursday, June 25, the Steel Valley School District conducted public hearings related to the closure of Barrett Elementary and Park Elementary. These hearings are required by Section 780 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code. They provide the district with an opportunity to share additional information for the reasons behind the school closures and allow for the public to comment.

Acting Superintendent Dr. Brian Plichta shared two presentations explaining the decision to close Barrett Elementary and Park Elementary, a decision which led to the construction of Steel Valley Elementary. The new elementary school, which will combine all Steel Valley students from Pre-K through fifth grade into one, state-of-the-art building, is on schedule to open in August 2026.

Please note that the Steel Valley School District Board of Directors will hold three meetings next week to conduct the business of the district.

The June worksession meeting will be held on Monday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. and the June regular voting meeting will take place on Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m.

In addition, the Board of Directors will hold a public hearing pursuant to Section 780 of the PA Public School Code regarding the closure of Barrett Elementary and Park Elementary on Thursday, June 25 at 5 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment and testimony concerning the proposed closing of Park & Barrett Elementary Schools. All interested residents, taxpayers, parents, students, and community members are invited to attend and be heard.
