Jeromy Smith, a flight test engineer with the Department of Defense, was among the eight people believed to have lost their lives when a military aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base on Monday.

For his wife, Lauren Smith, it began like any other workday. She said her husband followed the same routine he had followed for years—getting ready for work, saying goodbye to his family, and heading out the door. It was a normal morning that turned into an unimaginable tragedy.

Lauren described Jeromy as the heart of their family, a devoted husband, a loving father to their two young children, and someone who always put others before himself. She said he was her biggest supporter and a role model whose kindness and character left a lasting impact on everyone who truly knew him.

Officials said the crash happened shortly after takeoff and was not survivable. The cause remains under investigation as recovery efforts continue at Edwards Air Force Base. The base has also opened a support center for military members, civilian employees, contractors, and families affected by the tragedy.
