We’re celebrating a big national recognition for Ball State Teachers College!

Teachers College is one of just 31 educator preparation providers nationwide to receive the Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for Continuous Improvement from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

The award recognizes educator preparation providers that achieve accreditation with no stipulations or areas for improvement, backed by strong evidence and data demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and quality.

The recognition was presented at the 2026 Fall CAEPCon in Arlington, Virginia, on Sept. 17–18.

This honor reflects the ongoing work of our faculty, staff and programs to prepare educators who are ready to make a difference in the lives of K-12 students.

Congratulations to everyone who helped make this recognition possible!

Fun Fact Friday!

This week, we’re heading to Sorrento, Italy, the favorite place of Tracy Caddell, Associate Clinical Professor in the BSU Educational Leadership Department.

With its cliffside views over the Bay of Naples, historic streets, lemon groves and famous limoncello, Sorrento certainly has plenty to offer. But for Tracy, the destination is special for another reason: it was his first visit to a European country.

At 66, Tracy decided it was time to make the trip. He and his wife explored Sorrento together and even took a cooking class, which Tracy says was the highlight of the trip.

A first European adventure, a new place to explore and a shared experience with his wife made Sorrento a trip to remember.

Scholar Spotlight: Meet Addie Rosebrock!

Addie Rosebrock has wanted to become a teacher since before kindergarten. With a dad and grandmother who were both teachers, she grew up with two educators to inspire her.

Now, Addie has started her own journey at Ball State as a dual Elementary Education and Special Education major. She hopes to teach elementary students and help them get started on the right track for their future.

The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is also giving Addie the opportunity to fully participate in experiences beyond the classroom without worrying as much about the financial side of college.

Scholar Spotlight: Meet Callie Williams!

Callie Williams discovered her love of teaching as a middle school teacher's aide. A few years later, an English teacher introduced her to poetry, helping Callie discover a passion for writing that would shape her future.

Now, the first-year student pursuing a teaching major in English/Language Arts in the BSU English Department hopes to teach high school students and help them discover their own passions.

Callie also brings plenty of leadership experience to Ball State. She served as a two-year cheer captain, French Club president, and senior class officer, among other activities.

As a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, Callie is pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher while preparing to make a difference in the lives of future students.

What does democracy require of us?

Find out tomorrow when Minnijean Brown-Trickey, a member of the Little Rock Nine, joins Ball State for a special Constitution Week talk.

Brown-Trickey helped integrate Central High School in 1957 as a teenager. She will reflect on that experience and her decades of work as an educator and civic leader.

Happy Family Weekend to all our students and their families!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of celebrating our Teachers College Dean’s List students from the Fall 2025, Spring 2026 and Summer 2026 semesters.

Students and their families joined us on the first floor of Teachers College for cookies, lemonade and plenty of celebrating. Dean Katy Bulkley, our associate deans, and many faculty joined in the fun and helped recognize the hard work that earned our students a place on the Dean’s List.

Congratulations to all of our honorees! We’re proud to celebrate this accomplishment with you and the people who support you along the way.

Fun Fact Friday!

This week’s favorite place takes us to Mochima National Park in Venezuela, the hometown area of Regina Giraldo-Garcia, Associate Professor of Research Methods in the Department of Educational Studies.

Mochima National Park is a beautiful, protected area along Venezuela’s northeastern coast, with white-sand beaches, coral reefs, deep bays and islands.

Regina says she has visited many unique and memorable places, but Mochima is special because of how it makes her feel. She loves going to the ocean, feeling the cool breeze on her face, listening to the waves and watching beautiful sunsets.

For Regina, the ocean brings a sense of peace and freedom.

We’ll be back next Friday with another favorite place from one of our Teachers College faculty or staff members!

How is data being used to create a brighter future for Delaware County’s children and youth?

Join the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) for its 2026 State of the Child Presentation on September 17 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom.

IYI will highlight statewide youth data and key indicators for Delaware County and East Central Indiana before bringing community leaders together for a panel discussion about turning data into action.

Kylee VanMeter has always had a pretty clear answer when someone asks what she wants to be when she grows up: a teacher.

Her papaw, who taught for about 40 years, inspired her with the lasting connections he made with former students. Now, Kylee is following in his footsteps as a first-year Elementary Education major at Ball State.

Kylee has already gained classroom experience through a high school internship, and she's excited to keep learning as she discovers the kind of teacher she wants to become.

Fun Fact Friday!

If you could pick one place you've visited as your favorite, where would it be?

For Penny Craig, Teaching Professor in the Ball State University Department of Special Education, the answer is Inverness, Scotland.

Penny traveled to Scotland with her father while she was in Germany with student teachers. They took the opportunity to explore the family connection to “Clan Craig” and visit Craig Castle. But it wasn't just the family history that made Scotland special. Penny says the Highlands around Inverness simply felt like home, with a landscape that reminded her of Indiana, only with more hills and water.

They explored castles and historic sites throughout the area, including Urquhart, Brodie, Eilean Donan and Craig Castle. Their first trip to Craig Castle ended in darkness thanks to the early November sunset, so they returned the next day to see the last standing tower.

The only thing missing from their Scottish adventure? A glimpse of Nessie!

We're excited to spend the year getting to know our Teachers College faculty and staff a little better through their favorite places. Check back each Friday for another Fun Fact.
