Congratulations to Ball State alumnus Jason Witzigreuter, who has been named the 2027 Indiana Teacher of the Year! 🎉

Witzigreuter earned his bachelor’s degree in instrumental music from Ball State and has spent 28 years in K–12 education. Today, he serves as associate director of bands at Homestead High School, where he works with student musicians across multiple ensembles and grade levels.

As Indiana Teacher of the Year, he will represent educators across the state and help champion the teaching profession throughout the year.

Congratulations, Jason! We’re proud to see a CFA alum making such an incredible impact through music education. ❤️🎶

Associate Teaching Professor of Piano Michael Seregow recently represented Ball State on the international stage as an invited guest artist at the 6th International Piano Festival “Encuentros” in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia! 🎹🌎

Held July 29–August 2, the festival brought together distinguished pianists from Spain, Germany, Argentina, Bolivia, and the United States. During the five-day festival, Seregow performed his solo recital, Dreams and Evocations, at La Casa de la Cultura Raúl Otero Reiche, presented a masterclass for piano students and teachers, served on the jury of a national piano competition, and delivered a lecture on “Secrets of Good Tone at the Piano.”

Congratulations to Professor Seregow on sharing his artistry and expertise with an international community of musicians!

Alumni News: Congratulations to Ball State School of Music alumnus Bradley Ziegelmaier ’24, who has been named the new band director at Batesville High School!

A 2024 graduate of Ball State’s Bachelor of Music Education program, Bradley was active across the School of Music as a member of the Pride of Mid-America Marching Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Orchestra.

Bradley comes to Batesville after serving as Director of Bands at Lawrenceburg Community Schools, where he helped grow the band program by 33% and expanded student participation in ISSMA opportunities. He’ll now lead the Batesville High School band while also teaching general music at Batesville Middle School.

Congratulations, Bradley, on this exciting next chapter! ❤️🎵

We asked current and incoming students what they love or are excited for about studying music at Ball State. Here's what they said:
"Film scoring opportunities!"

Since 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Scott Routenberg has taught Commercial Music Design courses in our Music Media Production program. MMP 304 is an advanced course in film, television, and game music writing. In this course, students learn about Hollywood orchestration, music notation using Dorico, creating mockups in Logic Pro with Vienna Symphonic Library virtual instruments, and timing music to action on screen.

On April 17th, 2025, the Ball State Symphony Orchestra recorded original film music in collaboration with the 10 student composers in Dr. Routenberg's class. Professor Gregory Robbins' graduate conducting students conducted all of the student compositions. Student composer Julian Cain rescored this short clip of a rooftop chase sequence from the 2018 movie Aquaman. This video features the BSSO and was mixed by Dr. Christoph Thompson and edited by Dr. Scott Routenberg, who supervised all projects.
