👋 Meet Derrek Hojnacki!

Derrek is a Resident Assistant in Botsford/Swinford Hall. This is his second year working in BSU HRL!

Derrek became involved in HRL because he wanted to give back to the community that made him feel at home when he arrived at Ball State. He was able to feel more connected to campus because of HRL and decided that he wanted to have the same impact on students!

In Derrek's own words, "one thing I have learned during my time here with HRL is to be open to new ideas, possibilities, and opportunities that might have not been there before. Before HRL I wasn’t as open minded about the people and ideas that were around me, and now that I have been able to collaborate with people from different backgrounds, I see that there is a lot more than just my ideas."

👋 Meet Josh Spence!

Josh is a Resident Assistant in Schmidt/Wilson Hall. This is his second year working with BSU HRL!

One of Josh's favorite memories of his time in HRL was on Halloween last year. He was the RA on duty that night, and decided to take a bucket of candy around the hall to reverse trick-or-treat the residents in the building!

In Josh's own words, "I became interested in HRL after my fall semester freshman year. I really struggled adjusting to life away from home and being in a completely new environment. The community in the residence halls helped me succeed and grow as a person, as I was able to meet so many great people that have been my closest friends while here at Ball State. I decided to apply to be an RA to help shape that community, and to support residents who also have trouble with homesickness. Being a part of my resident’s support system, whether I’m offering a hand in time of need or cheering on their accomplishments, has been the one of the best experiences here at college and I wouldn’t change it for the world!"

Last night at STAR Party, students got to explore the answer firsthand! This event brought us together to learn about student organizations, academic programs, immersive learning and study abroad opportunities, and so much more. ✨

And, of course, it wouldn't be a party without some free pizza! 🍕

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) Rocked The Halls on Friday with a night full of memories! 🥳

Students who joined had the opportunity to enjoy a custom soda bar, get creative with crafts, play volleyball and yard games, take on inflatables, cool off with ice cream, and enjoy plenty of delicious snacks. 🎉

LLC Kickoffs were a HUGE success! 🎉

Our Living-Learning Communities came together over the past few days to meet new people, connect with their academic communities, enjoy some icy treats, and start the year off strong!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to everyone behind the scenes who made these events possible. The best part? This is just the beginning! ✨
