Director, Psychoeducational Diagnostic and Intervention Clinic (PDIC): The Psychoeducational Diagnostic and Intervention Clinic (PDIC) is a university-based training and service clinic. The clinic provides comprehensive psychoeducational, psychological, developmental, behavioral, and diagnostic assessment services for children, adolescents, adults, families, schools, and community agencies. The PDIC serves as a critical training site for graduate students in School Psychology and related disciplines while providing high-quality, evidence-based services to individuals throughout East Central Indiana and beyond.

Psychologist and Director of the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD) strives to be a comprehensive training and research hub dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). CASD provides Ball State University students with hands-on training in autism diagnostic evaluation, evidence-based intervention strategies, and collaborative consultation practices.

This quarter, we’re featuring Abby Haworth, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Student Life, who is sharing insight into her CliftonStrengths theme of Consistency. Here’s what she had to say:

“My strengths show up constantly in my daily routine, and I’m so thankful Ball State gave us the opportunity to take the assessment and really develop our talents.

My top strength is Consistency, which honestly caught me off guard at first. My initial thought was, "How is that a strength?!" But as I’ve leaned into it, I see Consistency playing out across both my professional and personal life.

It drives how I support students and staff by creating a fair, predictable environment where expectations are clear and everyone receives the same level of care. Paired with Significance, it helps me stay connected to the real-world impact our office makes on the wider campus community.

My strengths help me see my bigger purpose in my work on campus.”

August’s Featured Flyer highlights Brittany Bales, Assistant Department Chair and Associate Teaching Professor in Special Education. Brittany has the joy of teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate classes for future special educators. Additionally, she oversees some of the practicum experiences, where she witnesses students putting their knowledge and skills into practice in local classrooms.

-Why did you choose to work at Ball State?
I grew up in Muncie, but had not stepped foot on campus until I was an undergraduate student. It was like a whole new world to me. As a first-generation college student, I was in awe of the possibilities and opportunities that college offered. I completed all my undergraduate and graduate coursework at Ball State, and when I decided to leave the public-school classroom to make a greater impact on education, Ball State wasn’t just the obvious choice for me; it was the dream. I began my journey at Ball State as an adjunct in 2016 and have now completed my 8th year as full-time faculty.

-What’s your favorite part of working here?
The people. I love the people that I work with, and the faculty and staff across campus.

-What do you love about working at Ball State?
I’ve had the privilege of teaching and training hundreds of future educators. I love getting to play a role in their journey to their own classrooms.

Additionally, he guides students through complex financial aid and billing processes, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and a seamless experience within higher education systems.

-Why did you choose to work at Ball State?
I grew up on Ball State’s campus while attending Burris in the previous millennium and have always had a soft spot for the university ever since. Having seen the university through a student’s eyes from a young age, I feel uniquely positioned to understand what families are looking for and provide the support for students to be comfortable here.

-How has Ball State supported your professional development?
Over the past four years, Ball State has afforded me the opportunity to hone my skills in system implementation and cross-functional collaboration. Working with multiple units to achieve a common goal has strengthened my ability to coordinate complex processes and integrate several moving parts into a seamless solution. Through these experiences, I have gained a deeper understanding of how effective collaboration and thoughtful system integration contribute to a better overall customer experience.

-What’s a project or moment here that makes you proud?
One project that makes me especially proud is the work we have done to introduce a new concept of customer service for students. By creating an environment where multiple issues can be handled within one office, we have made the process more efficient and less stressful for students seeking support. This approach has not only improved the student experience, but it has also helped the University identify unintended consequences of decisions more quickly and adapt in a timely manner. Seeing the positive impact this model has had on both students and institutional operations has been very rewarding.
