We are proud to honor Dr. Damita Williams as the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Dr. Williams received her bachelor's degree in 1984 from BSU, MS degree from University of St Francis, and an MA and EdD from Indiana Wesleyan University. Currently serving as National Senior Director of Nursing Quality for Ascension, Dr. Williams leads initiatives impacting more than 140 hospitals and 48,000 nurses nationwide. Her remarkable career spans top healthcare systems, where she has advanced patient safety, nursing engagement, Magnet recognition, and clinical excellence—all grounded in a strong commitment to service and faith-based leadership. Her work continues to inspire the next generation of nurse leaders and shape the future of healthcare. Join us in celebrating Dr. Damita Williams and her extraordinary contributions!

Up next, is Dr. Deb McCarter. Dr. McCarter earned her bachelor's degree in 1987 before continuing her educational journey with IU School of Nursing MSN in 2013 and DNP in 2017. As Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Dr. McCarter leads with vision and commitment—championing innovation, workforce development, and outstanding patient outcomes. Her impactful leadership across major healthcare systems, including Cincinnati Children’s and IU Health, reflects a career devoted to empowering nurses and driving transformational change. Join us in celebrating her remarkable legacy and leadership!

For We Fly Friday, we will be recognizing our 3 Outstanding Alumni award recipients. First up is our Emerging Outstanding Alumni, Erika Breivogel, RN. Erika is a 2014 graduate of the BSU School of Nursing. She currently serves at IU Health Methodist in the Multi-Specialty Critical Care Unit and has assumed numerous leadership roles. Erika is a Daisy Award recipient, Distinguished Nurse Program honoree, AACN scholarship recipient, keynote speaker, podcast contributor, and nationally recognized presenter on ICU delirium and critical care practice. Congratulations, Erika!

Some people are natural leaders. Denise Bousman is the epitome of not only a leader but a great leader.

By dedicating her time to fostering team culture, Bousman is known by all for her compassion and care. Mentorship, thought partnership and genuine care for her team members are what makes Bousman the great leader she is.
