Graduation may be behind us, but summer work is in full swing at Cowan Junior-Senior High School.

One of the biggest projects taking place this summer is the replacement of our lockers. For the first time in more than 30 years, our students will return in August to brand new lockers throughout the building. At the same time, portions of the old VCT flooring are being removed and replaced with luxury vinyl tile, giving several areas of the school a fresh new look.

It has been exciting to watch these projects take shape, and we cannot wait to see the finished product. We are looking forward to welcoming students back in August and seeing their reactions to the improvements. Stay tuned for more updates as work continues throughout the summer!

Sectional Champs!

Our Lady Blackhawks are bringing home the hardware! After defeating Daleville last night and shutting out Liberty Christian 15-0 in five innings tonight, our Cowan Softball team has claimed the 2026 Class A Sectional 57 Championship!

The celebration didn't stop at the final out. The team was welcomed home with a fire truck es**rt and greeted by our baseball team, who had just earned a sectional victory of their own over Wes-Del. It was a great night for Blackhawk sports!

The girls will continue their tournament run on Tuesday night at Indianapolis Lutheran, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Congratulations, ladies! We are proud of you and all that you have accomplished. Good luck on Tuesday!

This morning, our Seniors had the opportunity to head over to the elementary school for the annual Graduation Walk. It is always a special moment to watch our graduates walk the halls where so many of their school memories began.

We are incredibly proud of the Cowan Class of 2026 and all they have accomplished throughout their time at Cowan. We look forward to celebrating them one more time next Friday at graduation here at the high school.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! We are proud of you!

What a night for Blackhawk baseball! With a 19-7 win over Wes-Del this evening, our boys finish conference play at 8-1 and bring home a share of the Mid-Eastern Conference Championship! This marks the first baseball conference title for Cowan since 2012, and it is a well-deserved accomplishment for a group of players who have worked extremely hard all season long.

This team has battled and competed from day one. We are proud of the effort, toughness, and pride these young men have shown throughout the season. Now, the focus shifts to sectional play next week, and we cannot wait to continue cheering them on.

Congratulations, guys! We are proud of you!

One of the coolest final exam projects of the year is taking place in Dr. Amy Conrad’s American Literature class.

As part of their final exam, freshmen write and illustrate their own children’s books after studying children’s literature and the elements that make a strong story. Once the books are completed, the students visit Cowan Elementary School to read them to K–2 students.

This year, Dr. Conrad’s class read to Mrs. Rhodes’ kindergarten students. What made the experience even more meaningful was that the kindergarten class had recently been studying story elements, so they were able to help identify characters, setting, problem, and solution in the books our freshmen had created.

It was a great opportunity for our students to share their creativity with younger learners and see their hard work put to use in a real and meaningful way. Great job to Dr. Conrad and all of the students involved!

Tonight, I had the distinct honor of attending the Storer Scholarship Dinner with Cowan’s recipient, Ava Gregory. It was a wonderful evening at the Delaware Country Club, celebrating some truly outstanding students from across Delaware County. We were treated to a delicious dinner and then had the opportunity to watch each recipient receive their scholarship certificate.

We are incredibly proud of Ava and all that she has accomplished during her time at Cowan. Ava will be heading to Indiana Wesleyan next year, where she plans to major in elementary education and youth ministry. Knowing Ava, there is no doubt she is going to make a positive impact wherever life takes her.

Congratulations, Ava! We are proud of you and excited to see all the great things ahead for you!
