We’re so proud of our OSU Extension Master Gardeners but especially of Pat who has been involved since the beginning! 50 years!

🌟 Master Gardener Spotlight Saturday 🌟

This week we're celebrating an extraordinary milestone in Master Gardener history and honoring a volunteer whose dedication has inspired generations of gardeners.

Meet Pat Patterson, OSU (Oregon) Master Gardener Program's longest-serving Master Gardener volunteer. At 87 years old, Pat is still actively answering gardening questions from her farm near Noti, Oregon, nearly 50 years after accidentally stepping into her husband's spot in the very first Master Gardener training class in 1976.

What began as a twist of fate became a lifelong passion for science-based gardening education. Over the decades, Pat has answered more than 23,000 gardening questions, taught classes, led committees, hosted a radio show, and championed adaptive gardening to help make gardening accessible to people of all abilities.

Pat's story reminds us of what makes the Master Gardener program so special: a commitment to lifelong learning, sharing research-based information, and helping others succeed in their gardens.

As the Oregon Master Gardener Program celebrates its 50th anniversary, volunteers like Pat continue to demonstrate the lasting impact one person can have on their community.

💚 Thank you, Pat, for five decades of service, leadership, and growing knowledge one garden at a time.
