Blue2 Indoor Percussion & Winterguard is a winter percussion & colorguard ensemble based out of Mukwonago, WI. The activity combines the precision, athleticism and energy of drum corps/marching band with the intimacy of other visual art forms such as dance and stage drama - it has even been called "percussion theater" in some circles. The ensemble is composed entirely of percussion instruments (an
d occasionally a few rhythm section instruments such as guitar, bass, or piano) split into two sections:
The Battery: The battery consists of four smaller subsections: Snares, Tenors, Bass Drums, and Cymbals. All members on these instruments march and perform choreographed body movements including but not limited to dance, stick tricks/body visuals and interaction with props. As such, the battery provides much of the visual presentation in addition to their musical responsibilities. The Front Ensemble: The front ensemble consists of stationary instruments played by members with either no or reduced marching/visual responsibilities (though they still may be called upon at times to be integrated into visual elements of the production). However, the front ensemble is tasked with much of the musical element, as they provide the melodic and harmonic content of the ensemble as well as other colors and timbres. This section utilizes a wide variety of instruments such as Marimbas, Vibraphones, Xylophones, Bells, Timpani, Drumset, Synthesizer, Ethnic/Hand Drums, and in certain instances, Guitar or Electric Bass, and more. Blue2 Indoor is open to students in grades 5-12 of ALL experience levels - you do NOT have to be a percussionist or experienced colorguard member to join! You do not even have to have any experience at all as long as you are willing to work hard and have a positive attitude.
