Bands of Wando Great People Doing Great Things
16x SC State Champion, 5x BOA Regional Champions, 10x Super Regional Class Finalist,
6x Grand Nats Finalist, #11 '25!

Wando High School has one of the most comprehensive band programs in South Carolina. Students participate in three concert bands, chamber winds, percussion ensemble classes, marching band, 3 jazz bands, and various chamber ensembles. The Wando Symphonic Band performed at the 2007&2019 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic and in 2007 received the Sudler Flag of Honor, administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The band also performed at the 1998 and 2002 Bands of America National Concert Band Festivals. Other honors include being named National Honor Band for the 2005 Grand NAI, the 2004 and 2009 University of South Carolina Band Clinics, and the 2006 and 2011 National Concert Band and Orchestra Invitational through the Disney Honors program. The marching band regularly performs at the Bands of America Super Regional & Grand National competitions, reaching finalist level. They have been named South Carolina State 5A Champions eleven times from 2005-2019. In 2018, they finished 6th in BOA Grand National Finals.

We wish we could show you everything happening at rehearsal… but some things have to stay under wraps. 👀🤫 So in the meantime… expect LOTS of close-up shots! 😂📸

The students started working with props during another LONG Saturday rehearsal, and they LOVE them! It’s been so much fun watching their reactions and seeing them interact with these new elements of the show.

You’ll have to wait to see it all come together at the season debut of The Watchers in exhibition at the Lowcountry Invitational (LCI) Marching Band Competition — hosted by… The Bands of Wando! 💜💚

The rain last night was NOT our friend… 🌧️

We know there were disappointed parents and fans who didn’t get to see the band perform. We were disappointed, too! 💜💚

But did you know our equipment is a major factor in whether we can perform in wet weather? At any given performance, there can be hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of instruments and equipment on the field — some owned by the program and some personally owned by our students and their families.

🪈 Woodwinds: Water can damage pads, corks and delicate mechanisms — sometimes resulting in expensive repairs.

🎺🥁 Brass & Percussion: Instruments, drums, carriers and hardware all have to be thoroughly dried before storage to help prevent corrosion and damage.

🚩 Guard: Wet silks have to be opened and completely dried to prevent mildew, staining and damage.

There’s a lot more behind a weather decision than what you can see from the stands!

The good news? Our students made the most of the night. They squeezed in an impromptu music rehearsal AND got some pep-band time in the stadium — and those smiles say they still had plenty of fun. 😂

And congratulations to Wando Football on the WIN! 🏈 We hope to be back in the stands next week cheering you on against Lucy Beckham! 💜💚

A wet field meant hitting the asphalt for rehearsal with plenty of that good old Lowcountry mugginess. 🥵

Not exactly glamorous, but the work goes on wherever we can get it done. 💜💚
