Pastor Robinson, the Pilgrims' pastor, wrote a farewell letter in which he included his teachings on biblical church government which greatly affected the writing of the Mayflower Compact.

Perhaps the most important document in American history, The Mayflower Compact is the foundation on which our freedom is built. It established self-government, the right of the people to choose leaders, the equality of all men, and the establishment of a strong union. It serves as a constant reminder of America’s Christian roots.

Students in grades 3-7 discover the Mayflower Compact, and many other biblical foundations on which our nation was built. Visit ThePilgrimStory.com to start now!

It was a treaty that lasted for more than 50 years. Both William Bradford and Edward Winslow document the relationship they had with the Wampanoag people in their journals. They were allies, and looked out for each other.

Of Squanto, Bradford writes his gratitude for the friendship, "“…but Squanto stayed with them, and was their interpreter, and became a special instrument of God for their good, beyond their expectation. The showed them how to plant their corn, where to take fish and other commodities, and guided them to unknown places, and never left them till he died.”

After their long, arduous voyage to the New World, the Pilgrims sent men to explore the land. They took several expeditions to find a place that would be well suited to make their home. Having arrived in winter and already tired and hungry, the Pilgrims knew that they needed to find a place suitable for habitation quickly.

Students taking The Pilgrim Story online course delve into Bradford's journal to see how the Pilgrims found the land they would name "Plimoth", and how they survived their first winter in the New World.

The Pilgrims didn't have a luxury cruise ship. Their boat was a cargo ship -- not at all designed for transporting passengers. It was cold, wet, dark, and smelly. In fact, they were not allowed to go up on deck!

Many experienced seasickness throughout the long voyage. Their discomfort was made worse by the fierce storms they encountered.

Students enrolled in the Pilgrim Story course learn what the voyage was like for the Pilgrims, what they ate, as well as some of the ways that the children and adults would have passed the long hours.

Can you imagine trying to buy a boat to carry you to a far-off country? That is exactly what the Pilgrims did. In order to secure a voyage to the New World, the Pilgrims sold most of what they had. It wasn't an easy decision to leave their family, friends, and church.

In the Pilgrim Story online course, students learn how the Pilgrims secured transport to the New World. They also can imagine what it might have been like to have to say "goodbye" to the people they loved. This interactive course is so much more than an overview of historical events -- it is taught from a Biblical worldview so students can see how the Pilgrims applied Biblical principles in their daily lives.

Did you know that before deciding to undertake the voyage to the New World, the Pilgrims first settled in Holland? They briefly lived in Amsterdam before settling in Leiden. While the Pilgrims found freedom of religion in Holland, they knew they could not make it their permanent home.

The Pilgrim Story online course uses the journal of William Bradford to teach students why the Pilgrims decided to come to the New World. The course is geared to grades 3-7 and is a delightful, interactive way to engage in deep learning of this time in history.

The Pilgrims' plight is well-documented in William Bradford's journal, Of Plymouth Plantation. Bradford describes the persecution they endured as "... hunted and persecuted on every side, until their former afflictions were but as flea bitings in comparison."

It was this persecution that caused them to twice attempt to leave England, which was illegal at the time, and find freedom of religion in Holland.

The Pilgrim Story online course describes these two attempts in-depth using Bradford's journal, a primary source. Discover The Pilgrim Story for yourself at ThePilgrimStory.com

Who is this fellow and what does he have to do with the Pilgrims? You might be surprised!

King Henry VIII is a rather unsavory character in history BUT he did do something that would be life-changing for many people.

The Pilgrim Story online course starts with an overview of King Henry VIII and his choice to publish the Bible in English. He could not have imagined what the Lord would do to advance the Gospel, despite his own rebellion.
