Wildflower syrup Day 2!
- Step 1: Strain flower/water mixture to remove flower buds (we used cheese cloth but forgot to photograph that step, oops!)
- Step 2: Pour liquid into a small sauce pan and turn onto high heat until it reaches a boil. Compost the petals.
- Step 3: Measure out sugar (normally we use maple syrup for our recipes but we were worried it would be too strong of a flavor for this recipe so we used granulated sugar) ~ we used 1/8 cup sugar for our 1/2 cup of liquid.
- Step 4: Once liquid is boiling, slowly add sugar and dissolve. Continue to boil, stirring occasionally until mixture is slightly thickened, about 5-10 minutes.
- Step 5 (my favorite step): Taste test (yum!) and add more sugar or boil longer if desired to thicken (remember, the syrup will naturally thicken as it cools).
- Step 6: Once it reaches your desired taste and thickness, pour into a clean Mason jar, tighten the lid, and cool.
- Step 7 (vital step): Let your cats inspect your final product. Minnie approved but Shadow declined the appearance on camera.
- Step 8 (ok, this is acutally my favorite step): Eat and enjoy! ๐ โค๏ธ
This is a great syrup for drinks, desserts, waffles, and straight out of the jar! And, it can be made with any edible wildflower!
*You can make this recipe shelf stable by canning the jar(s) in a hot water bath*
**You can make jelly out of this recipe by adding pectin before adding sugar in Step 4; follow dosage directions on your pectin packet**
