For those not fluent in Mandarin, they're singing 媽媽我愛你 — "Mom, I Love You" — a song about paper airplanes, picking flowers, and knowing that wherever you are, home is wherever you are too.

This past Wednesday, April 22nd, our students came together to celebrate Earth Day. 💙 🌍

They gathered to hear stories, watch interviews with the Artemis II crew on what Earth looks like from space... then things got competitive! They grouped into their separate Houses, and their environmental knowledge was put to the test with a live interactive quiz. As each answer went up, the whole student body reacted in real-time.

At YCIS Silicon Valley, learning is never passive. This time, it was a full-auditorium experience.

WHAT MAKES AN "INTERNATIONAL" SCHOOL, TRULY INTERNATIONAL? 🌎

Last week, our 5th graders departed for their capstone field trip — exploring history, immersing themselves in culture, and connecting with students at our sister campuses.

At YCIS Silicon Valley, we define "International" as an education where Eastern and Western academic approaches complement each other through our co-equal teaching philosophy. From preschool through middle school, our classrooms bring together progressive frameworks like Whole Child development, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Character Development alongside rigorous Chinese studies.

That vision is continuously refined through our connection to YCYW Education Network — a family of 23 campuses and 13,000 students where our teachers exchange ideas with leading academics and our students step into experiences that can't be replicated in any classroom.

WHAT SETS OUR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION APART FROM BILINGUAL SCHOOLS?

While many schools focus on the ability to communicate in Chinese, YCIS Silicon Valley’s international curriculum is designed to transform students into truly bicultural young scholars, well prepared to excel in a globally connected world.

At YCIS'S annual 朗讀 (Lǎngdú) recital, student competed for a chance to represent our school at a regional competition.

So what is Langdu? For starters, it is more than speech; it is an art form. It’s the bridge between literature and performance. To master it, a student must understand the deep context of a poem or story, using their voice to convey every nuance—adjusting breath, pace, and volume to bring the text to life.

We are incredibly proud of all our contestants for the hard work, preparation, and courage they showed performing in front of the entire school community!

And a special shout out to YCIS parents for their countless hours of support and encouragement at home. Bravo!
