YCIS’s unique Co-Teaching model ensures students not only develop fluency in two world languages but gain a deep appreciation of culture and respect for diversity. Two highly qualified Co-Teachers, one English-speaking and one Chinese-speaking, serve as teaching partners who share responsibil

ities for the care and education of their students. They plan and work together to provide students with a variety of learning experiences, support students in developing English and Mandarin communication skills, and role-model appreciation and respect for diversity. As a result, an environment is created in which Western and Eastern traditions, perspectives, languages, and cultures are equally valued and celebrated throughout the whole school. Co-Teaching at YCIS is offered in certain classes according to age and subject suitability. In the Preschool, Co-Teachers provide students with constant support in both English and Mandarin in a fully bilingual environment. Preschool Co-Teachers work together in planning and teaching, preparing progress reports, conferencing with parents and in all aspects of the classroom. From Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 5, Co-Teachers collaborate in planning and teaching character education and social studies. Chinese- and English-speaking teachers also support each other in planning and organizing co-curricular bilingual experiences and cultural events.

Families here see it and children live it. It's a teaching team of native English and Mandarin speakers working as equals in every classroom. It's strong character taught as seriously as academics. It's children asking questions and thinking them through using both languages, every day.

Our extraordinary ECE teachers spent the last day of their summer on their hands and knees.

Nothing in the handbook or curriculum says to draw a rainbow on the walkway so a young toddler's first walk into school is down a path of animals and flowers. They drew it low, because the world of a two-to-four year old is three feet off the ground.

Most of the children who walked through it this morning won't remember it. By Friday it'll be half rubbed away by their own shoes. Our teachers knew both of those things before they picked up the chalk. They did it anyway.

That's next level care. Care as in someone wanted your child's year to start with joy.

The song playing behind these photos is one most of our families can sing without thinking.

Know it? If you do, you probably learned it in a place and a childhood that looked nothing like the one your child started this morning.

That gap, in culture and in distance, is the reason a school like YCIS Silicon Valley exists. Not so students can learn Mandarin, but so they can move between two worlds without being asked to choose. This is where the best of both cultures becomes character.

Give your little one a head start with a YCIS Early Childhood Education. We offer something no preschool can: two native-speaking teachers in every room, one English, one Mandarin, every single day.

TWO CULTURES. ONE CURIOUS CHILD. 🌎 🌏 πŸ’‘

We all know what a fig is, but why is it called η„‘θŠ±ζžœ (no-flower fruit) in Chinese? It's this kind of question and cross-cultural observation that makes a YCIS Silicon Valley education so special.

Here, kids pursue one big idea that crosses every subject. This past semester it was "Change," how things grow, shift, and transform. Through Project Based Learning, kids ask their own questions, research the answers, and present their findings, all in both English and Chinese.

Three times a year we open the campus for "Sharing of Learning," so families can come and see what students have been exploring.

Oh, and the fig? Turns out we really are eating the flower. Those tiny seeds inside are the flowers themselves.

Our parents share a conviction that their kids deserve more than a standard academic education. Our YCIS Silicon Valley kindergarteners made this video for mothers everywhere.

For those not fluent in Mandarin, they're singing εͺ½εͺ½ζˆ‘ζ„›δ½  β€” "Mom, I Love You" β€” a song about paper airplanes, picking flowers, and knowing that wherever you are, home is wherever you are too.

This past Wednesday, April 22nd, our students came together to celebrate Earth Day. πŸ’™ 🌍

They gathered to hear stories, watch interviews with the Artemis II crew on what Earth looks like from space... then things got competitive! They grouped into their separate Houses, and their environmental knowledge was put to the test with a live interactive quiz. As each answer went up, the whole student body reacted in real-time.

At YCIS Silicon Valley, learning is never passive. This time, it was a full-auditorium experience.
