Ames is home to the world's two largest wind tunnels, the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex is used to determine how air flows around full-scale vehicles and large-scale test models at speeds as fast as 115 miles per hour. Airflow is driven by six enormous fans each 40 feet in diameter, and each with a 22,500-horsepower electric motor.

They provide vital wind testing for some of the nation’s most sophisticated commercial and military aircraft, spacecraft, and more. https://go.nasa.gov/4gGw8Fo

Late Aug. 27 (Aug. 28 in some regions), the Moon passed into the shadow of Earth, creating a deep partial eclipse that resulted in its reddish-orange color.

Keeping it 100 💯

On Sunday, Aug. 23, BioSentinel reached 100 million kilometers (~62 million miles) from Earth!

Since catching a ride to deep space on Artemis I, the CubeSat has been collecting valuable data on the type and dose of space radiation that can affect living organisms. During its trek, BioSentinel has also recorded data from ten solar particle events.

Today marked the largest civil servant swearing-in ceremony Ames Research Center has ever hosted.

"As long as I can remember, I’ve always looked up at the sky wondering what it would feel like to be up there. Traveling on commercial airplanes fed that curiosity, but the real spark came when I first soared through the air myself. Flying a paraglider felt like borrowing wings from the wind, an experience that truly ignited my love for aviation.

My aeronautics journey has taken me around the world and now into supporting NASA’s work in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). I get to wear many hats, from developing new concepts and designs to flight testing, evaluating, and implementing emerging technologies for a better and safer world. Each step feels like riding a powerful updraft, lifting me higher, widening my horizon, and fueling my excitement to keep learning and sharing with what I can, while soaring toward new experiences."
