📵✨ When phones are off, opportunities are on.

One of the best parts of school is the chance for students to connect with classmates, build friendships, and engage fully in learning. That's why personal devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, must remain off and put away during the school day.

We appreciate families partnering with us by reminding students not to text, call, game, or check notifications during class, lunch, or recess. Together, we can create a school environment where students are present, engaged, and connected to the people around them.

Help our students be their very best by making sure they show up every day and on time!

Students who miss 10% of days (or two days a month) of school are considered chronically absent. When we reduce chronic absence we improve graduation rates, increase academic achievement and give young people the best chance at success in their adult life.

Showing up on time matters, too! Even showing up 10 minutes late every day causes students to lose a full hour of learning each week. By working together, families and schools can ensure every student has the opportunity to grow, learn and succeed!

🔵 Favorite subject in school as a kid: Music + Math
🔵 Favorite Hobby/Activity outside of work: Reading and visiting the beach in Santa Cruz
🔵 Best moment at your school this far: Welcoming the new TK class to Bubb (they are so small and capable!) + watching all of the students participate in Welcome Week, getting to know their new teachers and classmates.
🔵 What you are looking forward to most this year: Getting to know all of the students and families better and better.

🔵 Best Moment So Far: The kids coming back through the gates for the first day of school and feeling the campus truly come alive!
🔵 What am I Looking forward to?: Getting to really know the students, the community, and our team. Exploring the neighborhoods we serve and forming the strong partnerships needed for our students to excel.

Happy Labor Day! Just a reminder that there's no school today as we take time to honor and celebrate the hard work and contributions of workers across the nation.

A huge thanks to our team members, parents and partners for all the work they put in to make MVWSD a wonderful place for students to learn and grow.

🔵 Best moment at your school so far this year: It’s a tie between the energy of the first day and Back to School Night! Vargas is such an incredible community of supportive families and dedicated educators, and I’m so fortunate to be a part of it.

Bubb, M***a Loma and Theuerkauf have been named as America’s Healthiest Schools for 2026. The recognition, awarded by Alliance for a Healthier Generation , a leading children’s health organization, honors schools’ dedication to supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and families. Our schools are among the 1,120 schools recognized nationwide.

These schools repeat MVWSD schools’ recognition from 2025, 2024 and 2023, with M***a Loma Elementary School having been named for all four years.

This award underscores MVWSD’s commitment to a Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child approach to education, in which the entire community contributes to students’ academic, physical, and social-emotional health.

Congratulations to the teachers and counselors who were recognized at tonight’s Board of Trustees meeting for earning permanent status in MVWSD!

This milestone recognizes their successful completion of two years serving our students and their reelection for a third year. We’re grateful for their talent, dedication and commitment to our students and schools. Congratulations!
