As we observe Memorial Day, we would like to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of this important national holiday. Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We are grateful for their service.

Castro is wrapping the year up with a splash! Our Dolphins had a blast at the Health & Wellness Fair and End-of-Year Carnival! Families explored valuable resources while participating in crafts, face painting, delicious food, balloons, games and plenty of prizes. But the undisputed highlight was the Water Bucket Duel Machine, where two players raced to crank their side of the machine until one of the two buckets tipped.
A huge thank you to everyone who made this event so much fun! Here's to a fantastic year, Dolphins!

5th graders from all 9 elementary schools in the district visited Graham and Crittenden Middle Schools, where they'll be spending their next chapter!
The day kicked off with a big assembly where students had the chance to meet the staff who will be guiding and supporting them through middle school. Then, our middle school student leaders hosted panels, where 5th graders could ask all their burning questions about what middle school is like, and provided guided tours, giving our incoming Bears and Panthers the chance to explore their campuses and start feeling right at home.
Thank you to students and staff for all their hard work to make this big welcome happen! We can't wait for our 5th graders to start their middle school journey next fall! 🐻🐈⬛

MVWSD recently locked in savings of over $3.1 million for local taxpayers by refinancing bonds originally approved by voters in 2012 through Measure G.
The District replaced prior bonds with an average interest rate of 3.38% with new bonds at an all-inclusive interest rate of 2.82%, without extending the term of the bonds. The refinancing savings are a win for taxpayers because they result in lower property taxes. Once the District identified an opportunity to refinance in a way that benefitted the community, the Board and staff moved quickly to pursue it.
The District received the highest ‘Aaa’ rating from Moody’s Investor Service as part of the refinancing process. The incredible rating was the result of the District’s strong local economy, community-funded status, and track record of financial conservatism and outperformance.

We are scooping up some gratitude!
Our MVWSD staff is incredible, and this month we are making sure they know it. Superintendent Baier and his team are visiting all 11 school sites and the District Office to hand out ice cream and a thank you. Visits started during Staff Appreciation Week last week and will keep going all month long, so staff: keep an eye out, and thank you for EVERYTHING you do!
