📚 Smooth Homework Transition: A Guide for Middle Schoolers 📚

Worried about helping your child adapt to the increased homework load in middle school?

Here are some tips:

𝟭. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀: Support your child in reaching out to their teachers with any questions. It is time for them to be responsible for that communication. You can help them draft an email or role-play what to say to help clarify expectations and questions they may have.

𝟮. 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Strike a balance between homework and rest. Research suggests that around 10 minutes per grade level is optimal. Ensure your child gets enough sleep by structuring their after-school schedule thoughtfully.

🎯 Clear communication is key!

Letting our kids know what’s expected of them in advance helps them feel confident and understood.

It’s not fair to assume they know how to behave if we haven’t communicated that clearly.

Instead of criticizing after the fact, set them up for success by repeating instructions as often as needed. Remember, kids need reminders! 🗣️✨

When my daughter was little, we had a deal: anytime something was added to the calendar that affected her—like dinner plans or an appointment—I’d let her know. 🗓️

This was especially important because she was going between my house and her dad’s after our divorce, so knowing what was coming up made all the difference.

At the end of the day, it helped her feel secure by knowing what to expect.
