Just another field trip...to Stanford University! Members of the KLS iGEM team visited Stanford’s Bioengineering Department for an incredible behind-the-scenes look at research in synthetic biology and CRISPR technology. Students toured an active Biosafety Level 1 teaching laboratory, spoke with the lab manager about lab operations and research practices, and met with Professor Engel to discuss our current iGEM project and receive feedback on our work.
The team also had the opportunity to visit Professor Stanley Qi’s CRISPR lab and learn more about cutting-edge applications of gene regulation technology. Professor Qi contributed to foundational work related to dCas9 technology stemming from the research recognized by the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, making it especially exciting for students to hear directly from a leader in the field.
We’re extremely grateful to everyone at Stanford who took the time to host and inspire our students.

Happy National Teachers’ Day! As we write this, our teachers are building a greenhouse, exploring places such as Yosemite and Costa Rica with students, and even acting as venture capitalists in a student-created society complete with its own government. Every day at Khan Lab School, they inspire curiosity, creativity, and connection — and on this occasion, we especially celebrate them. Thank you, teachers!

Congratulations to our science teacher Vy, who has been named a California State Champion in the Presidential AI Challenge for building QTIgen, a tool that helps teachers create Canvas quizzes at scale.
QTIgen brings AI directly into the quiz-creation workflow, allowing educators to generate, edit, and upload questions in just a few clicks. Beyond assessment, it unlocks something more powerful: using quizzes as dynamic learning tools with instant feedback, multiple attempts, and endlessly variable practice.
It’s a thoughtful example of AI not just saving time, but expanding what’s possible for teaching and learning at Khan Lab School!
Way to go, Vy! Curious to see it in action? Check out the demo video from the competition or try it yourself: qtigen.com 🚀

Belated Pi Day celebrations across our campuses! 🥧✨ A fun tradition filled with math games, tribute drawings of Einstein, and (of course) celebratory pie for students who memorized the most digits of π—shoutout to our champ who recalled 450(!) digits. And a fitting fact to top it off: Albert Einstein himself was born on 3.14.
