Thank you to our Upper School families who joined us for Back-to-School Night! 👋

Families met with teachers, visited classes, and learned more about their students’ experience at KLS. Parents got to do a little learning, too, with an interactive workshop on how mastery-based learning works and how they can support their students. 💡

We’re looking forward to a great year ahead!

And a special thank you to our Family Association parents for organizing and serving dinner!

What does it look like to use technology thoughtfully in schools?

In a recent CNBC interview, Khan Lab School founder Sal Khan put it simply: “I also think for high school students, they will be at a disadvantage if they haven't had some exposure to using these (AI) tools.”

That exposure gives students the opportunity to learn how to validate what AI produces, understand its capabilities and limits, and form their own opinions about when to use it.

At KLS, that reflection doesn’t stop with AI. Students reflect on their own work too, asking why they met a goal (or didn’t), and what that teaches them going forward.

What better way for our Middle Schoolers to start the year than with a little adventure? 🌲🌊🎭

From whitewater rafting and ziplining through the redwoods to paddling at Shoreline Lake, team challenges at Mount Hermon Adventures, exploring San Francisco, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and experiencing Bay Area improv, our students packed a lot into orientation week. 🛶🧗‍♀️

Along the way, they unplugged, built community, practiced teamwork and leadership, and challenged themselves in new ways.

These shared experiences help set the foundation for the friendships, confidence, and sense of belonging they’ll continue to build throughout the year.

The first week is underway, and there’s already so much happening across our campuses. We’re proud to see our students exploring, creating, learning, and taking initiative as they settle into a new year. We can’t wait to see where curiosity takes us.

A year after our first summit, the education world is still searching to figure out what AI means for the future of learning.

That’s why the AIED Summit has quickly become a cornerstone of our work at Khan Lab School. What makes this gathering special is what it’s not: it isn't run by giant tech corporations, and it’s not a pitch floor for startups.

It is a grassroots community of real teachers and school leaders sharing what’s actually working in the classroom, what’s failing, and what remains an unsolved challenge. Beyond the hype, this conversation is about keeping learning human.
