Hello East Range Academy families and followers!
We want to share an exciting update regarding our upcoming merger with Vermilion Country School (VCS).

While much of the "official business" has been handled behind the scenes by Director Cordero and Director O'Brien, the future VCS - Mt. Iron campus is officially moving forward into its next phase of implementation ~ preparation for the new school year!

This week, the initial staff for the 2026/27 school year has begun meeting. They are already diving into enriching professional development to align the educational framework and set an intentional tone for the new campus.

There has been a strong response from current East Range Academy students and families regarding their intentions to begin classes at the VCS - Mt. Iron campus in the fall! As the student body continues to grow, the VCS - Mt. Iron campus will be onboarding additional staff to expand the team in order to meet students' needs. As word spreads across the Iron Range inevitably the Vermilion Country School - Mt. Iron campus will have many new and familiar faces joining this exciting new journey together. A full staff list will be shared later this week.

United to inspire,
East Range Academy

As East Range Academy of Technology & Science prepares for its next chapter, we look back with immense gratitude for the incredible students who have walked through our doors and shaped our history. For the past 19 years, East Range Academy has been more than just a school building (we even made it work at the mall!). It has been a community, a family, and a safe place for students to discover who they are. Every graduation, every breakthrough, and every shared laugh in our hallways has left a permanent mark on our hearts. Our students have always been the heartbeat of our school, and the 19 years of alumni represent resilience, creativity, and spirit that define East Range Academy legacy. While it is difficult to say goodbye to this chapter as we prepare to merge, we know that this spirit isn't staying behind. The same determination and community focus that made our school so special will carry forward into this new beginning. To our 19 years of alumni, our current students, families, and every past and present staff : thank you for being a part of our history. You have made East Range Academy an unforgettable place to learn and grow and we love you.

As all good things do, this school year has come to an end. I would be lying if I said that this was an easy year. From the renewal process not going the way we had planned, to working with Vemilion to get our schools to merge, this year tested all of us, and yet somehow we made it.

I want to personally thank all the parents and students that I have had the pleasure to meet over the course of my 3 years at ERATS, and extend the sincerest gratitude to all of you who were patient with all the unknowns of this year. I don't know where I would be without you all.

That being said, this is the time where I announce that I am leaving after the close of the year. While ERATS has been my home the last 3 years, and I have loved these students as if they were my own children, there comes a time where we all have to make a decision to continue in the same spaces or grow as indivuals in new ones. Many of the students already know I won't be returning with the merge, as I have accepted a position teaching in Ely.

But this doesn't mean goodbye forever, just for now. I do plan on visiting throughout the year as I hand off my kiddos to a new director and a new school. I will miss the legacy that ERATS created, and that I had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of, but I am excited for the future and being a part of keeping a space for kids who need it on the Iron Range.

I have always held a huge vision in changing education for the better, and my time with ERATS has only deepened that passion, and I intend to continue doing so wherever the future leads me.

I hope to see all of my students cross the stage at graduations in all the years to come. I can't wait to see all the successes they find in life, and see the wonderful people they become. These kiddos hold a special place in my heart, and I love them all deeply.

May you always find the brightness in those darkest days, and remember I am just a phone call/message away.

With all the love and gratitude,

Ms. Cordero
