It’s the last day of school in my district! Congratulations to all the kids for working hard, doing their best, pushing through even when things felt really hard, and showing up every day to do it all over again. You all are my heroes! Enjoy your break! ☀️

Here are some ideas for keeping students motivated regardless of the outcome of their work.

Children with learning difficulties, in particular, may not always achieve the best grades, but if they’ve put in a lot of effort, it deserves recognition!

In addition to praising effort over performance, you may also want to look for opportunities to help a child apply their strengths.

In the case of students with dyslexia or dysgraphia, this can mean changing a task so it becomes a spoken presentation vs. a written piece, or giving them more room for creativity in how they approach the assignment.

For more ideas on encouraging children with learning difficulties, have a look at this article from Read and Spell: https://www.readandspell.com/us/children-with-learning-difficulties

Another idea is to try a learning program that gradually boost confidence in learners with special needs.

Touch-type Read and Spell is a typing platform designed to help children who don't always do well with literacy-based tasks, feel and be successful. It breaks learning into small modules, takes a multi-sensory approach and rewards accuracy over speed.

Students learn the keyboard in a self-paced way and an underlying curriculum of phonics helps them strengthen their reading and spelling skills at the same time.

For more information and to try the program with your student, just leave "Free Trial" in the comments and we'll send you a link for two weeks of access.

Happy learning!

It is exhausting being dyslexic in our education systems.
We put so much energy into reading that by the end of the day we are exhausted.
Isn’t it only fair that homework is reduced to that which can be completed in the same timeframe as it would take someone without dyslexia to complete?

A Growth Mindset is so crucial for kids to have, especially for our kiddos with learning differences. I love the way Dr. Becky talks about the “Learning Space” in this short video. Great visual with kid-friendly language that explains and normalizes the frustrating of learning new things!
