Over the last few weeks the Montfort Botany Club represented by juniors Sophia Hernandez-Yergozhina, Mia Enciso, and Zachary Abrahams, visited schools in Mount Vernon, NY to present their research on Invasive Plant Species. They defined invasive plant species and analyzed their destructive impact on native ecosystems. After examining prominent examples across the United States, they outlined proven mitigation strategies to control their spread and support habitat restoration. We are looking forward to seeing more of their exciting research in the fall.

On May 16th, sophomore Armando DeSousa competed at the National Geography Bee in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After automatically qualifying for the final competition against 6000 other students nationwide, Armando represented Montfort at the National Bee and finished tied for 29th place. The level of knowledge of these young students was truly impressive. Congratulations to Armando and thank you to the organizers of the National Geography Bee! ⚔️
