Seeking Classroom Aide (Special Education Support) - Knox Learning Center

Job Type: Full-Time hourly for the first year, step 0; $17.15 per hour

Reports To: Lead Classroom Teacher / Special Education Director/Director of the Learning Center

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and adaptable Classroom Aide to support our classroom Teacher. You will work with a wide range of students, including those with diverse learning styles, varying academic abilities, and specialized educational plans. Your primary goal is to foster an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes independence, social-emotional growth, and academic success for all.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support: Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce lessons taught by the classroom teacher. Adapt materials and provide alternative explanations to match different learning paces and styles as demonstrated by the classroom teacher.

Behavior Management: Monitor student behavior, implement classroom-wide rules, and use positive reinforcement to redirect students. Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans for students who require specialized accommodations.

Student Assistance & Personal Care: Assist students with daily tasks, mobility, and personal hygiene as needed.

Supervision: Oversee students during non-instructional times, including recess, lunch periods, arrival/dismissal, and job placements.

Collaboration & Reporting: Communicate daily with the classroom teacher to track student progress and discuss challenges. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or coursework in Education, Child Development, or Special Education preferred. We promote from within.

Experience: 1+ years of experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or inclusive setting preferred but not required.

Adaptability: A high level of flexibility to adjust to the unpredictable, daily needs of a diverse classroom.

Patience & Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with students of all abilities and backgrounds.

Physical Demands

Must be physically able to stand, walk, sit, and move around the classroom for extended periods. The ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 35 lbs.

Location: The Knox Learning Center
Schedule: Full-time 7:30 am to 2:30 pm
Start Date: August 12, 2026
The rate of pay is $17.15 per hour, 1st year

Position Overview
We're looking for a compassionate, reliable, energetic, and patient individual to serve as a 1:1 Student Aide, providing individualized support to a student in an educational setting. The aide will assist the student with academic tasks, social development, and daily classroom participation. Home healthcare, senior living, and STNA experience is welcomed. Not a necessity.

Key Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one support to a student throughout the school day

Assist with academic assignments and classroom activities
Help implement teacher-directed lesson plans and accommodations
Support the student’s behavioral, social, and emotional needs
Encourage independence while offering appropriate guidance
Communicate regularly with teachers and staff regarding progress
Maintain a safe, positive, and structured environment
