Boy, do I miss this man!!!!!!! Its hard to believe its been 10 years since he is gone. Way too early, way too soon. The world lost an amazing Musician, superb teacher and just an amazing person.
I have such special feelings for him. I was only 8 when I met him. He also studied with the same legendary teacher Anaida Sumbatian that I was studying at the time. She introduced us with the long term goal for me to study with him when I was older.
Vladimir Vsevolodovich didn't teach then due to his extremely heavy performance schedule. But whenever he was in Moscow, I would go for a lesson. He was bigger than life. He was all I wanted to be when I grow up.....
He was so devoted to his students... In fact, we all felt like his children. He would welcome us into his life, feed us, take care of us. His home was always open for us. I remember calling him at midnight crying about my break up with a boyfriend....maybe even more than once. I knew it was safe to tell him anything.
The influence he had on me as a musician is enormous. I often hear his voice in my head when I am teaching my kids...
Today is his birthday!. He would only be 77....
I miss him terribly, but I am so thankful that I had a chance to know him, hear him play, take in his instructions and hopefully share now with my students his gifts and wisdom.
