Last Friday, NABC joined staff and volunteers at Community Services of Western Washington Farmworker Center to distribute $14,000 worth of fresh, local, and culturally relevant produce to 100 families.

This was our 13th food distribution project—and our largest to date! This year’s boxes featured produce from 12 participating local farms and an unprecedented variety of food: more than 38 unique locally grown products, including chilacayote, tomatillos, jalapeños, honey, eggs, raspberries, pears, and more—adding up to an estimated 4,000 pounds of food distributed to our community.

This project would not be possible without the generous support of North Sound ACH whose funding helps us address food insecurity while creating markets for local farmers. And a special thank you to Puget Sound Food Hub for donating to this year’s boxes!

We’re grateful to everyone who makes these projects possible—from the farmers who grow the food, to our partners, staff, and volunteers who help get it into the hands of families. ❤️

Over the summer, Verduras Organicas Mexicanas has been growing more than 20 varieties of amaranth for the Amaranth Institute’s symposium, which took place in Mount Vernon this week!

Reyna and Bartolo have been farming and saving quintonil seed since their time farming in Mexico. Yesterday, they had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with symposium participants during a farm tour and amaranth tasting at their farm.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their agricultural knowledge and the incredible diversity of amaranth they have cultivated! 🌾
