Good news coming out about the FAFSA! And it’s time to apply! FAFSA.gov

FAFSA opens October 1. The September prep list, two and a half weeks out because the first item takes the longest:

Create FSA IDs now: student and one parent. Verification stalls more filings than anything else. List every school, even maybes since adding later is slower. If income dropped since that tax year, plan to contact the financial aid office after you receive a financial aid award. It's not something you fix in the FAFSA.

File before Thanksgiving. Schools with limited aid budgets run out of exactly the money you want.
