“Have any of you ever gotten this error message before?” (Shows screenshot to students in Google Meets) “Yeah, that happens to me all the time. Just restart the iPad.” (The clouds part and doves fly down from the heavens.) And scene.
Don’t get me wrong, I L🧡VE our technology support staff and our technology coach! But distance learning takes a village and sometimes classmates are able to provide instant answers to one another. The children are spending more time on these devices than ever before! Don’t forget to use their expertise!

When Google Meet updates on student iPads overnight... you just have to roll with it. Out with the cute printable icons and in with my sketches.
Sometimes moments like these remind me to keep it simple! How are you simplifying remote teaching this Fall?
P.S. the Closed Captions tool is a sleeper HIT! My students think it’s magical and ❤️ it.

You know you’re a teacher when your summer splurge is a personalized ex libris stamp 🙋🏻‍♀️
Over the years, I have labeled my classroom library books with room numbers, my maiden name, stickers, levels, you name it! It doesn’t help that I shamelessly take freebies and donations so many of my books already have other teacher names stamped in them. After switching to distance learning in the Spring, I know that I’m not getting a lot of books back from students simply because they weren’t clearly labeled as mine.
This summer I plan to take stock of my library books that are left and stamp them all!

Count on Me by Bruno Mars is the next section for Tune in Tuesday. I played this every. single. day. at the beginning of math class while my students worked on the anchor task. I miss the chorus of their sweet voices belting out, “You can count on me like 1,2,3. I’ll be there... ‘Cause that’s what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah!”

Everyday People by Sky and the Family Stone came on the radio this weekend and while I was grooving along I though, “this would be perfect to play in my classroom!” In fact, it inspired a whole new series of posts. Every Tune In Tuesday I will feature a song that is appropriate for the classroom, has a positive message, and is actually enjoyable for adults to listen to at the same time! (No offense KidzBop 😉)

➡️ this summer vs. last summer ➡️

Professional reading is a constant, however, I’m staying home to do it this year instead of enjoying the beach. This is the fourth book on Visible Learning that our district has assigned for us to read. I like having a consistent theme and delving a little deeper each year.

I came across this student artwork a few weeks ago while I was packing up my classroom. I can’t get over the wisdom of this 10 year old student! You see, I’m moving from 5th grade Sheltered English to be an ESL Resource teacher next year at my same school. While there are many reasons I am sad to leave behind 5th grade, I am excited to grow professionally through co-teaching partnerships, experience K-5 curriculum, and to form new relationships with English Learners that I might not have met otherwise. You will never stop growing!
