Our sweet Corona would like to show you the newest addition to our herd: Her adorable baby boy.

We're anxiously waiting to determine if he is polled or not.

Since summer babies were not expected, and this is the second summer birth, we ere still trying to decide on "theme" for this season's babies.
Earlier themes have included:
+Wildlife
+Walker Texas ranger characters
+Chicago fire characters
+YouTubers
+Ice cream
Etc.

Great visuals from Ruminants Academy ". I'd love to find a similar explanation doing a compare and contrast with modified Ruminants, like our alpaca.

📑 Ruminants are amazing creatures, but what does being a ruminant mean? 🐄🐑🐐

Ruminants are ungulates (2-toed) animals that chew a regurgitated cud. In order to chew their cud, they must have a specific type of stomach -- a rumen.

💡Our domesticated ruminants have 1 stomach with 4 awesome compartments.

1️⃣ Rumen – The 1st chamber is the biggest. The rumen has a "shaggy" carpet feel/look with papillae that flow back and forth (think seaweed moving in the ocean). The rumen is filled with "bugs" 🦠 and has its own ecosystem of bacteria and yeast to break down forages 🌾.

2️⃣ Reticulum – This 2nd chamber is a smaller outcropping of the rumen and has "cups" like a honeycomb 🍯 pattern to catch the food for digestion.

3️⃣ Omasum – The 3rd part is a tight compartment with many "pages" 📖 of a book. The food weaves back and forth, absorbing water 💧 and drying out the ingesta.

4️⃣ Abomasum – The 4th compartment is like our human stomach 🧍. The ingesta is rehydrated with acid 🧪 for the final digestion before the intestines.

Using gourds and pumpkins for fall decor??? Want an eco-friendly way to dispose of them when they are done??? Our goats love them!!! I can pick up here in Mount Pleasant, NC, or possibly meet you somewhere else. If you are going to be in the Mount pleasant area, you can drop them off as you go by, if that works for you.

Nadia worked so hard today. She talked to patrons about dairy goats, she took lots of pictures for people while they got baby goat snuggles, and stuck it out through two downpours while keeping the goats safe and dry. I'm so proud of her. Many vendors left after the 10am downpour. Many more left in the 2:30 rain . Another 3:30 downpour. She hung in till we had to leave at 4:40 to go to church.

If you are finished with yours, feel free to swing by and leave them at the top of our driveway, or throw them over the fence into the pasture by the road, or contact us to arrange for us to pick them up, or, for you to arrange a time to come by and visit with the animals while you are here.

Neighbors were cutting down banana trees.... So, of course Nadia had to haul them all to the farm and try her hand at building a survival shelter like she's read about. I think she did a great job. The goats thought so too, they said so in between bites.

When it's extra cold out, baby goats need extra snuggles.
