Most families are worried about the wrong twenty schools — the other four thousand are worried about them.

This Week in College Admissions — August 6, 2026 Chris Parsons breaks down what actually matters this week in college admissions — the Common App opening, 'direct admission' scholarship offers, FAFSA's real-time upgrade, and a legal ruling every family should know about.

The "best" college isn't always the one with the highest ranking—it's the one that's the best fit for you.
Research can help you build a college list, but there's something you can't experience through a screen: the feeling of being on campus.
One visit can answer questions you didn't even know you had.
If you're starting your college search, don't stop at Google. Go see the schools for yourself.

Are you making these college prep mistakes?

Summer feels like a break — but for a 9th or 10th grader, those 10–12 open weeks are the single best window to build the kind of résumé colleges actually notice.

Admissions officers pay attention to what a student does when no one is assigning it. The most common missteps? Treating summer as just time off, waiting until junior year (by senior year the résumé is mostly written), going wide instead of deep, skipping a simple SAT/ACT baseline, and assuming the experience has to be far away and expensive.

Wherever your student is starting, a clear plan beats a last-minute scramble — and if you're starting a little late, don't worry, we help those families all the time.

Book a free 30-minute consultation and we'll map your student's next step. No commitment, no pressure — just a clear path forward. 💛

🚨 "If they're going to fail... it's better to fail NOW."

We recently had a great conversation with the Never Gave Denied Podcast , and one message really stood out:

Sometimes the best thing a parent can do is let their child struggle.
As parents, our instinct is to protect our children from failure. But what if allowing them to struggle in high school is actually one of the best ways to prepare them—not just for college, but for life?
When parents constantly step in—emailing teachers, reminding them about assignments, or solving every problem—we may unintentionally keep our teens from developing the resilience, confidence, and independence they'll need later.
High school is where resilience is built. College—and life—are where it's tested.

👇 Do you agree? Is it better for kids to fail while the stakes are low, or should parents step in? Tell us in the comments!
