The U.S. Department of Education today recognized Christ Our King – Stella Maris School as one of the 353 schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for, and attaining, exemplary achievement. With its 40th cohort, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,700 schools. COKSM is now a double award-winning school having been named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2009 as well as in 2023.
“The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise The Bar in education,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. He then added, “The leaders, educators and staff at our National Blue Ribbon Schools continually inspire me with their dedication to fostering academic excellence and building positive school cultures that support students of all backgrounds to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.”
National Blue Ribbon School leaders articulate a vision of excellence and hold everyone to high standards. These schools demonstrate effective and innovative teaching and learning, and the schools value and support teachers and staff through meaningful professional learning. This point is further supported by COKSM Principal Susan Splendido, who said, “Our Catholic school is filled with outstanding teachers, engaged parents and hardworking students. We are blessed to be in a faith-filled community united in the goal of helping each and every student find success. COKSM’s focus is to help our students prepare for the next stages of their lives and become active members of our community.”
National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective and innovative practices for schools across the nation. School President John Byrnes added, “COKSM, in its efforts for continuous improvement, has a long tradition of providing a top-notch Catholic educational experience for our students, and we are committed to educating the whole child through our programs in academics, fine arts, stewardship and athletics. We are very happy and proud that we have once again been named a National Blue Ribbon School!”

We are grateful to have SOCiETY as a Crusader sponsor this year. The D'Agostino family, owners of SOCiETY, have children attending 4th and 6th grades at COKSM School and love being a part of the Crusader family.
SOCiETY opened last year after taking over the studio that was formerly MethodRide. SOCiETY has expanded over the last few months and now offers HiiT/Strength and yoga in addition to award-winning indoor cycling classes. Childcare is also offered during several classes each week!
If you are looking for a way to kickstart your wellness goals or just want to find a fun way to be active, check out SOCiETY! Your first week is always free and a 20% discount is offered on memberships for teachers, first responders, and military.
Promotional pricing is also available now to celebrate the newly expanded space and schedule - $149 for unlimited cycle, yoga, and strength training, will be available until 1/31, and then the price will increase two more times before 2/28. You can combine discounts, so this is a great time to join!
So, go crush your wellness goals at SOCiETY all while supporting a local business and fellow Crusader family!
